Johnny Walker

Have received a message from Terry Murphy earlier today, informing us of the sad passing of Witton Albion legend Johnny Walker.

Sad news . Johnny truly was a goal scoring legend.

Very sad news indeed, now there was a player who knew where the back of the net was! My condolences to all his family and friends.

Remember him almost scoring from the half-way line after the ball was tapped to him from the kick off in our first NPL match, at Burton Albion. Pretty sure it was Barry Alcock in goal for our opponents who tipped his amazing effort over.

Awful news that RIP John Walker Witton legend -He scored for Fun !

Sad loss.
WHS.

Very sad news, great player RIP Johnny

Just before my time but recall Wittoners saying what a good player he was. Which years did he play for us, mid-late 70’s? RIP Johnny

Played for Witton between 1979 & 1985. Scored 85 goals in 119 appearances.

No doubt Chad will fill in other details,

One of the best left footed players ever to wear the Witton shirt, When he hit it, it stayed hit, he would shoot from everywhere, any angle, any distance. Great memories of him at the Central Ground.

What a remarkable talent Johnny Walker was and like mentioned previously a sublime left foot. Those were the days when I was counting my sleeps to the next game. What we would give for a Johnny Walker in today’s team. RIP Johnny and thanks for the memories.

Johnny Walker was a fantastic player, his goal scoring record was phenominal. A true Witton legend. Probably the best striker I have seen in a Witton shirt in over 50 years of watching Witton. A great loss. My condolences to all his family and friends
A big thank you to Johnny for all the memories of seeing him play with such passion and commitment to the beautiful game.

So many great memories from when I was a kid…awesome player ! RIP Johnny

I thought that Peter Henderson would be irreplaceable at the time, then along came Johnny Walker RIP Johnny

I am in regular contact with Brian Griffin and have actually spoken to him earlier tonight. Brian will get back to me when he has information regarding Johnny’s funeral arrangements so once I have that information, I will post the relevant details on here.

he was one of a great team from that era, griffin, fletcher, keys, moss and fielding just to name a few.

No frills with Johnny. Just play it in front of him for him to run on to and a shot at goal was guaranteed and quite often a goal.
Deadly with free kicks and penalties too, RIP Johnny.

So sad my condolences to Johnny’s family.
I think the no frills sums Johnny’s style of play up. My one abiding memory of him was at the Central ground he burst in from wide and I was screaming at him to pull it back for Chalky White who as usual was on the edge the penalty area having run from his own penalyy area to get there. Instead of crossing it Johnny just blasted it from an acute angle with his left foot between the goalie and the post. Fantastic goalscorer because he’d let fly from anywhere. Don’t think I ever saw him head a goal but who cares he was a “leg” “end” as far as I’m concerned in one of the top 4 Witton sides of the last 50 years. I think John always used to acknowledge the contribution made by Brian Griffin. If there has ever been a better target man centre forward than Brian I never saw them another leg end in his own right along with Chalky White, Tony Keyes, Alan McNeil, John Yates, Fletcher, Fielding etc. If these lads were playing now in their prime we’d be out of site at the top never mind our Tenants.

RIP Johnny and thanks so much for the happy memories.

True witton legend. Thanks for the great memories Johnny. sadly missed, condolances to family.

Unfortunately, I didn’t receive any updated information relating to Johnny’s funeral arrangements as was hoped. The funeral was held on Thursday, 17th December at Macclesfield.
