Lancaster City vs Witton Albion (FA Challenge Trophy First Qualifying Round).

Witton begin their Buildbase FA Challenge Trophy campaign on Saturday afternoon when they travel to in-form Lancaster City. The Dolly Blues currently sit third in the Northern Premier League and produced an excellent performance in their last game away to Mickleover Sports last weekend winning 3-1, at a place that is never easy to go to. Witton fell to a disappointing defeat at Buxton at the same time but it was the manner of the defeat which gave cause for the most concern. The Cheshire Senior Cup defeat in midweek perhaps wasn’t so surprising with several team changes but, having got themselves into a winning position, it was a game they perhaps should’ve gone on to win but it wasn’t to be. Lancaster showed how good they have been this season when they came to Wincham Park in the league and went away with all three points. The Trophy is Witton’s opportunity to avenge that defeat but the draw could’ve been kinder to them, it’s now a matter of focussing on that and hopefully getting the desired result. Cup football tends to be a great leveller and anything can happen on the day. Progress in Non-league’s premier competition is always welcome and they will be going out to achieve that aim. Kick off at Giant Axe is 3pm.
