Witton’s Academy team are in action on Monday afternoon when they take on Leek Town in their penultimate NPL Football Academy Joma Division fixture. The fixture has fallen victim to the weather on more than one occasion this season and the re arranged games now sees Witton having to play two games in three days to complete their programme. The season have gone very well for the Albion Academy Students so far and they have the chance to finish third in the Joma Division, if they are able to win both of their remaining fixtures. They also reached the Quarter Finals of the NPL Football Academy Cup before bowing out to Sports Traider Division Champions Matlock Town (White), who have won every game this season and have progressed through to the Grand Final where they will play their Matlock Town counterparts who have won the Joma Division title. Students being selected for the NPL Football Academy Inter League game recently and leading goalscorer Owen Wynne being called into the First team squad and actually getting minutes on the pitch, is testament to how far the students have come this season. Witton have already beaten Leek in the reverse fixture earlier in the season and will be looking to complete the double and indeed hopefully win their last two away games of the NPLFA season. Home form has been excellent, winning five out of their seven games but away form has been a different story. Losing three out of five has prevented the team from getting closer to the top two but still an encouraging campaign for the students. The game is being played at Northwood Stadium with a 2pm kick off.
