Leek v Fleetwood & Other Matches Off

Just extracted off the Fleetwood site:-

Leek is Off:
01/02/08 17:30

Snow and rapidly falling temperatures, on top of an already ‘difficult’ pitch, mean that, following a referee’s inspection, tomorrow’s visit to Leek is postponed.

Shame!!!

Also off now is the 4th v 3rd clash Buxton v Gateshead ----- Oh Dear!!!

  • Ilkeston v Whitby (poor Whitby have now had their trips to Leek, Hednesford and now Ilkeston postponed)

:D:D:D

Fleetwood’s fixture congestion will be a real shame.

The Marine match at Ashton has now become the latest to be postponed so we now have none of the top 5 clubs playing this afternoon. Good thing - Bad thing??

Their are just 8 weeks to the end of the season, with a cup tie or two to play as well that makes 2 games a week for most teams, except Witton.
WHS.

There are 12 weeks of the season left!!!

Games left to play;

Witton 14
Fleetwood 17
Gateshead 16

The difference in games left is not massive (and we may get some postponed - perhaps Matlock?)

The games called off today have been arranged for Tuesday nights in April - what may be interesting is that the games Fleetwood have in hand look like all being played during April, so they will play twice a week during the final stages. Lincoln, Buxton and Leek are not going to be particularly nice or easy Tuesday night trips.

We need to keep the pressure on by winning all our games, as I have said before if we win them all then we are champions! In particular the home games against Gateshead and Fleetwood are important for us, however given our home league record we should relish these encounters!

I agree Rabbit now is not the time to get nrevous now is the time to be confident and get behind the lads, we have been the best team in the league so far and there is no reason to believe we won’t carry on that way. Come on Witton we deserve it!

Spot on Picko.

Sorry!!! Don’t know what made me think there were only 8 weeks left. Bit worried that Gateshead got Brayson, he might score a few for them at this level. The games against Fleetwood and Gateshead are going to be crucial, but no more than the game at Matlock. Theoretically Witton can lose to Gateshead and Fleetwood and still take the title if they don’t "blow it" against teams such as Matlock. Whoever said there are no easy games in Football was dead right.
Told you I was a "Jonah". I watch England run Wales ragged for 45 minutes then see them chuck the game away in the last 20.
WHS.

I think you are right regards Brayson, he could be a very good signing for Gateshead, if he pairs well with Southern it will certainly be a good front line - not as good as Adam and Rod obviously!!!

I think Gateshead could become more of a threat than Fleetwood, as Brayson is a decent signing. However, would you swap him for Warlow? Nope.

We are the best Team in this league, and we should win it. Beating the likes of Frickley, Whitby, Leek, Lincoln etc will be just as important as beating Gateshead and Fleetwood. They are all worth 3 points!!

Was very impressed by Gateshead at Fleetwood the other night - and thought that Fleetwood were unexpectedly poor. There’s plenty of 2007/08 left before we can rule out any of the top three at least for the title, but let’s be confident in as much as we’re in pole position, points in the bag and no hint of fixture congestion.

I was impressed with our new signing Tony Evans on Thursday night. He quite simply says I’m not bothered about Gateshead,Fleetwood or anyone. We Witton Albion FC just need to keep winning. If we do that we’ll win the league!! Very positive lad is Tony and hopefully will prove to be a good signing. I do agree though that the more the fixture pile up the worse it will be for Fleetwood. I remember how tired and how short we were of injured and suspended players when we got to the play offs last season. Thats why I’m glad we’ve got a lot of games out of the way and we’re up there. Hoping to try and make Matlock tomorrow if its on but struggling with loads of work here at the moment!
