Liam Brownhill

England ‘C’ was originally England non league team ie only players from below the football league could play, I think they became known as the C team 2 years ago, the under 23 rule only came in last season, not sure of the reasons why

Does anyone know if you can get team news/updates on tonights game?

i’ll see what i can find out and post on here asap.

So far all i can find is this from BBC Sport;

And this off FA Website;

Looks a good stadium a bit like Rushden’s. Do we know if this game will be shown on sky sports news or maybe football mundial?

It would be fantastic if he did play some part tonight and really show everyone that there is fantastic talent at this level of football. Having watched a few conference sides this season Oxford, Exter, Salisbury, Torquay etc I would say that players at this level are more than a match ‘ability wise’ for any conference player and its good that Paul Fairclough has seen this.

Have to say that on a general note its good to see non-league football making headlines the likes of this England C team in previous years would have gone un-reported but it’s great that the likes of BBC, Sky and Sentanta are really showcasing how good the non-league scene is.

Jim’s just had word from Liam and he is selected to start the game. He is en route to the stadium.

Jim’s big boost for BrownhillNov 14 2007

by John Buckley, Mid Cheshire Chronicle

WITTON Albion manager Jim Vince dropped his international full back Liam Brownhill for the match against Hednesford to give him a better chance of playing well in Helsinki tonght.

Full back Brownhill was called into the England C (semi-professional) squad after a trial game last month and is in line to make his debut in the International Trophy group fixture.

But he was the only fit squadman not to have figured for his team at the weekend.

Vice said: ‘Even if we had got beat I would not have regretted the decision. I’d have still done it had we been playing a title decider in April.

‘It is a big game for him and I wanted him to go into it injury free and fresh.

‘I have told the players I will do whatever I can to help their careers and I meant it.’

Albion’s selfless stance did not rebound on them. Tom Spearritt was an able deputy at left back and Witton came from behind to win 3-1. It was another superb performance.

Good luck to the lad.

I’m over the moon about this and the way its been handled by Jim and the club in general. Liam is a great lad and simply possibly the best full back in non league football.I shall be scanning the telee channels when I get home to see if its on anywhere. Best of luck Liam I’m sure you’ll give a good account of yourself! Well done mate!!

Hot off the air waves - Liam played the whole match and had a fantastic game - England won 2-0 as well.

"Finland C 0-2 England C
England C made a successful start to their defence of the International Challenge Trophy with a win in Finland.
Cambridge United’s Michael Morrison put England ahead on the plastic pitch in the Finnair Stadium in the 34th-minute.

Salisbury City’s Matt Tubbs then added the second for Paul Fairclough?s side seven minutes into the second half.

The result made it five straight wins without conceding a goal for the England C team, which is made up of under-23 players from non-league."

Roll on the Welsh & Eyeties

In the other group match played this afternoon Italy beat Wales 4-2

Well done Liam, I have never wanted an England team to do so well as I did tonight, After so many years of doing things the right way ie paying debts off £1 in the £1 maybe, just maybe this side will start to reep the benifits of honest graft instead of dishonest bluff! and maybe some of the local press will grasp this fact instead of being blinded by fancy (dishonest) surroundings and support us

Well done Liam, great to hear that he played the 90 and had a good game, I am sure he will get selected for the coming games they have.

This was interesting on the Vics board;

This could well be complete boll… well you know but have been drinking with a witton director tonight and he tells me Liam Brownhill had a blinder tonight for England C and an offer well in excess of half our VAT bill has been made by a certain Italian club that had 2 players in the Finland side has been made with a decent sell on clause too.

Liam Brownhill, the new Paolo Maldini!!!

Hope he likes pasta!

:slight_smile:

Maldini has bad hair too tho doesn’t he… ::slight_smile:

And on top of all this good news…he hasn’t picked up an injury!!

Let’s make sure we give him a fantastic reception on Saturday.

Fantastic news that Liam played the whole game and did well but this isn’t really a shock as we all know what a quality player Liam is and how he really should be playing much higher.
Hopefully he will be in the next squad for a home game then perhaps a few wittoners can go!

Oh by the way Rabbit the club with two Italian lads in the Finland squad who are supposed to be interested in Liam is INTER MILAN. However I think we have to take this with a Northwich mines worth of salt. However I do expect some interest from some clubs higher up the league system maybe even Paul Fairclough’s own Barnet or the likes of Peterborough who have taken quite a few non-league players in the last couple of years.

All in all fantastic for Liam and I hope he stays with us for many seasons. Congratulations, you have done Witton proud!

Well done Liam, the next scheduled game is on Wednesday 20th February against Wales, venue to be decided.

Witton have contacted the FA to offer Wincham Park as a venue.

Just watching Wayne Bridge ‘playing’ for what is supposed to be England A. How on earth can Liam have only been selected for England C?
