As you may have seen work is ongoing on the main site - this is the unoffical site, created by supporters for the supporters.
If you click the main site button above (assuming you have not come into the forum through there), you will see the new look pages starting to take shape. Mike has worked extremely hard on this (in between home DIY projects) to keep the technical side of the forums and server databases up to date. All of which he has done for free and little thanks - this site does not just magically appear on the internet!
Two appeals;
First - what do you want to see on this site next season, do you have any strong ideas on what the content should be? What would you like to find on here when you log on, match reports, pictures???
Secondly - we need supporters to provide the content. Can anyone take a camera away to games or events (where possible) and snap any images, pictures inside or outside of the grounds visited. Even things like wearing your witton shirt in far off places? The more content we can get the better the site will become. For example is anyone prepared to write a Northwich Pub guide for travelling supporters, this is the kind of thing we really value on other clubs’ sites. Again think about anything and everything that you could contribute. Post here or send me or Mike a message through the site.
The official site is (I am sorry to say) frustratingly poor and therefore we want to make the supporters site as good as it can be. In the next couple of weeks before the season all of the design and layout tweaks will be completed, in whatever spare time that we can find. Come the first week on the season it will all be ready so get your content over whenever you can.
Some form of supporters away day page was something that we were going to look at. We had considered putting it on facebook but if there is space on here then I’m all for that! Plenty of us have camera phones so there’s no excuses not to get plenty of pics. A day of the match article would also be good. The egg chasing team that I watch have a supporters website, and here is a day of the match report from there http://www.redvee.net/readarticle.php?article_id=652
Done - space and links to these articles will be set-up. Well done for volunteering to do this, looking forward to reading the reports next season. I wonder how many of them will include the words ‘robinson and lost’ and ‘greenie and aggressive’ in the same sentences!
I will speak with Mike to see if we can come up with an easy way of getting phone camera pics on to the site, this might be the only challenge.
For those clubs at Unibond League level that do bring some away support with them, a link with details of WAFC ground directions and a map for the first time travelling supporter (i.e. how to get to Wincham Park) would be useful, where to park, how much to pay in for season 2007-2008, how much the programme is, whether they can get into the bar, etc.
In addition, since not everyone has a car, some info on how to get to the ground from Northwich Railway Station or Bus Station would also be handy. (It’ll probably be a walk or a taxi as there’s not that many buses down the New Warrington Road! - If a taxi, what number to ring, likely fare, etc.).
As I started to provide information for away fixtures last season, I am willing to help on that in any way I can.
Providing information on Wincham Park for visitors, especially first time visitors is very important and necessary.
Last season I provided information for our own supporters travelling away and I am looking to do the same again for the new season. Admittedly, the information wasn’t always as good as I had hoped but I do want to continue with that.
At times there were a few teething problems, particularly with certain clubs not providing the information required. However in general I found the majority of clubs very helpful in this venture.
A mention of Hartford Station might be good too as it can be a lot easier to get to than Northwich from around the country but not many people realise that Hartford is so close and probably not much difference in price in a Taxi than Northwich.
Will endevour to try and take photos etc when I can would love to help out as much as I can but being a complete computer know nothing I fear not much on the actual site i can do.
As for photos of far away fans Pencil e mailed me one of a friend of his from the States who has taken to wearing his Witton shirt when watching his local ‘soccer’ team (said through gritted teeth) maybe I can e mail you with it rabbit or Mike T
Thanks for the comments and suggestions - keep them coming.
Mike messaged me earlier to say that he is also working on a ‘Google Maps’ module that we will be using on the site. This will allow you to click on the name of the opposition and get the map straight to their ground - pretty cool!
OK so time to divide the activity up to a few of the folk who have offered;
Away Day Review; Greg has kindly said he will write these for the season (although obviously at times other folk may need to deputise)
Away Travel; Wheels, If you have already started this for the programme etc, it would be pointless for me or anyone else to start again. Would you be good enough to collect this information together for all the opposition this season? This would be a really useful section and tie in with Mike’s work on Google Maps.
Supporters Team; Robbo can you give me any information you want in this area. I will copy across the match reports from the forum and all new match reports can go on to the main site. Also will need the web address for the soccer sixes site to link to. If you have a few digital pics of the supporters team can you drop these on email for me as well.
Juniors; Grazzer has asked if we can include info for the Juniors which of course we can, he will provide the info and updates for this section.
Wincham Park Guide; Peter, do you fancy collecting and providing this email in word doc/email form?
Pictures; Picko any photos you can take throughout the season would be great. I will message you with my email address for the one you mentioned.
Thanks folks for such a positive response, I think we can make a very good site from all of this.
Mike and I have been burning the midnight oil adding more features and style changes to the website. Any comments or additional input along the way is always useful so please feel free to make suggestions.
We are trying to pull the fixtures/match reports and links into one main table, see the following;
This may change in style as Mike is working on some even more powerful layout tools. On the example above you can click on the team name (only Middlewich link is working now) and you will get a map and details of the opponents. You will see next to the pre-season friendlies that we have played so far that there is a Report link next to each game. Once we get into the season proper the match reports will follow a pretty standard theme.
With 10 days or so to go before the season we need content, therefore;
Wheels; are you able to put together the opponents guide (Ground Address, Nickname, Approximate travel time from Northwich and any othet useful details you can think of). We need the same format for each opponent.
Greenie; as you volunteered under duress to produce the pub guide can you carry on with your one finger typing (appreciate this may take until Christmas)!
Neil is also working on some info but work committments mean this will probably be a week (but on the way).
Anyone else! This is your site so contribute whatever you can!
