manager

A warm welcome to our new manager. If it is a more attacking side than under Sully’s 6 man midfield then that can only be a good thing.

BTW, Neil, if you read this, I sent you an email, have you seen it?

As much as we hate to admit it, whereas 3 years ago managers at clubs like Skem and Curzon would have seen the Witton job as a step up, these days we would be a huge step down.

Crazy how things turn around so quickly.

If Scott can at least put some smiles back on faces then that will be a huge step forward.

Totally agree with you there Robbo and thats why I’ve been seething since we went down. At one time Witton Albion was the club everyone wanted to manage and play for. In the last 2 years we’ve had a real opportunity to push on and become the top team within our area but some of the decision making in the last 18 months has been seriously flawed so we have’nt. Yes I know we have to manage within our means and not splash the boat out but it really is becoming dreary listening all the time that we have no money and we can’t get him because he wants too much that sort of thing. Ok its a fact we have no cash but to keep going on about it is really negative. Curzon Ashton were below us only a couple of years ago. Teams like Ramsbottom, Frickley, Stamford, Nantwich, Skelmersdale etc are where we want to be basically because we did’nt do anything about our predicament in February when we should have changed the manager then. Now the relegation has cost us dear probably more than splashing out say 5-10k and getting someone in then. OK we can’t look back and keep harping on about it I know but lets start the season off on the proper budget we can afford then later if we are up there then maybe we can try and increase it if we can. Not like last season where we started off more expensive and then had to do cuts.
The one good thing for our new manager is that he has some experience to turn to in the background in the shape of Oggie if i’m reading the club statement right. Ok he might be a cheap option but lets give the lad a chance and see how he goes. As you said earlier at least hopefully its not relegation again and he will hopefully steady the ship and maybe get us a top 8 place in whatever league we go in which would be a start anyways.

says on the evo website that terry murphy is still our scout.what has he actually done?

Going on the replies Postyred-not a lot.

Mr.Dundas

I think its unfair to judge OUR new manager and the boards decision until the new season and we see OUR new team play. To be honest I hadn’t heard of Scott until now but it seems he did a great job at Norton over the years (surely on a lower budget than he will get at Witton??) and the attacking style he seems to play should be exciting to watch at least. It will be interesting to see which players he will want to keep and perhaps he will have some connections from his days at Norton that he may wish to bring in to strengthen us. I am also pleased that Oggy will be there with a helping hand, potentially it seems we could have a good management team in place.

Anyway welcome Scott. New song anyone? UTA

Might be wrong but didn’t Murph bring Ben Harrison to the club? Or was it Nige Deeley?

Why don’t you ask Terry yourself?

He is not usually at home games, as he is usually out scouting players and other teams, at the managers request, However, he does try and get back to the club after the games to give his reports to the management staff. I believe he does all this work for the club without affecting the budget.

Agree with TT on this. Terry has always kept an eye out for local talent at places like Barnton, Middlewich etc that might be good enough to make the step up to Witton. Personally I think the club desperately need scouts with vast experience and knowledge of local football, we simply don’t have the funds to bring all the players in from “bigger” clubs. Don’t forget he managed the club back in the day aswell.

Welcome to Witton Scott, i too like the idea of attacking football. But we need to tighten up in defence also, which iam sure he will do. This could be a kick start for titch in him being our number 1 striker for the season, if we give him the service he thrives on. That is if he stays, which i surely hope he does.
We as fans MUST get behind the manager and the players from day one of next season to try and regain our place in the premier league.

Judging by this article Scott has some clear ideas about who he would like to recruit

Dundas says he will be taking his assistants Steve Chadwick and Dave Hamnett along with him, as well as some of the players who were at Norton United.

Former Leek Town and Witton manager Paul Ogden will take over as head of recruitment.

“I’m not going to say too much about which players will be coming with me until I have had a chance to talk to everyone, but it’s fair to say it will be more than a couple,” said Dundas.

During his four years at Norton, Dundas enjoyed two promotions, a league cup win and guided the team to the first round of the FA Cup last season, where they lost at home to Conference Club Gateshead.

So overall it looks like we are getting a complete package as part of this appointment with additional experience built in in with Mr Ogden. If the core of the Norton team comes too, add in the players that we have kept and there could be the basis of a team to build on.

Good luck to all the new guys and I hope that next season is one to shout about for all the right reasons !!

When does the transfer window open up again and enable the club to complete registrations?

I’m reliably informed it’s 1st July.

Nantwich have announced a few signings?

I’m not a secretary but I believe players can physically sign the forms but they cant be submitted to the league/FA until a later date. Until this time people can change their mind of course!

You can get as many new players signed on, whenever you wont., However, they don’t become your players until the League process the signing-on forms, and if they are happy to register them. Wheels is correct in saying that the League wont accept such forms until the 1st July. There is also the FA process of registering any contract details, and also the process of checking/applying for international clearance (which includes having played for a North Wales club in their career).

These forms are frequently rejected by the League and FA for all sorts of reasons, and as such, I think Witton are very wise not to announce any new signings until they get confirmation back from the League and the FA that the forms have been accepted/processed.

Just had a response from Alan Allcock from the league. Yes a form can be signed but the registration can’t be submitted before July 1st.

Oh well in that case we’ll just have to wait and see

Patience is a virtue and all that…

Can we be reassured though that a squad is being compiled that will at least allow us to challenge this year and put the enjoyment back into watching our games?

In over 50 years of watching Witton, I can’t remember leaving before the end of a game by choice. Last season I was so disconsolate that I couldn’t face the second half of some games

Scott along with some of the volunteers are currently on holiday so news may be slow for a few weeks.

As Jeff said though the club has a policy of not announcing signings till after every i is dotted and t is crossed. Other clubs may wish to announce things and that is their wish but until July 1st players are registered and are free to move without restriction. It’s bitten a few clubs on the backside in the past and we won’t leave ourselves open to that.

Having spoken to Scott and Steve last week I know they are relishing the challenge ahead and are working hard behind the scenes to put together a squad capable of meeting the expectations of the board and fans.
