Just got back and dissapointed to say the least, cloggers and hoofers should never have has 3 clear goals over us a very false score IMO we had a lot of the play but hard to play football on such a small pitch and of course marine never try to play football it’s crunch and then hoof and run but today it worked for them, for me we tried foster and shaw as a sort of front 2 which hasn’t and didn’t work, and because of the lack of space matt and gards had little impact offensively so we missed that, we still missed chances good shouts for penalties turned down and no run of the ball plus an awful referee sums up a bad game for the albs on the day, marine were big and very robust and played to there only strength, we still need a third striker badly, I guess tuck was not fit enough to start but we looked better when he came on chasing the game, at the end our shape was silly almost 4 1 5 so no wonder we got hit by a sucker punch. Best forget today and move on.
Agreed false score line but we didn’t deserve anything. Ben Harrison man of the match by a mile.
No reflection on the lads who gave their best in the second half. Some very rough tactics from the opposition and extremely substandard and poor refereeing led to our loss.I am not concerned as we are Albion and still the best. :clap :clap :clap
We struggled today against a big physical side that are by no means better than us but they do what they do well. We keep coming up against these 6 foot+ defenders and we’re still trying the long ball over the top and it just isn’t working! We do need a third striker and it’s got to be a tall strong centre half. Tuck and foz are great at what they do, but we get so many corners and free kicks around the box that we just don’t make the most of. I can’t think off the top of my head how many headers we’ve scored this season but i reckon i can use 1 hand to count them. I hate moaning COME ON WITTON
A strange game for both sides. It’s clear the enforced break has affected us more than I thought it would. We conceded a clearly avoidable goal and came to life before and after half time when we had a goal ruled out for for a dubious offside, the strangest non back pass decision ever and poor final balls when in good attacking positions. Marine were organised and clinical scoring 3 from their 7 shots all game. Second half 2 goals from 3 shots is a great return, even thoughwe had the play, had one cleared off the line and some good chances from free kicks, corners and the odd pen shout. The penalty killed the game and was an absolute unnecessary tackle with the lad going nowhere. 3 nil did flatten marine and few would have argued if the game had ended as a draw, but results again have not caused us too much damage.
As for the playing squad it’s ok saying we need this and that but it’s clear any additional players would have to be additional funded, we just do not have the financial clout to support it. Anyway con north leaders tuesday and current league leaders Saturday. No better time to bounce back
Think only positive from the match was Bens performance! If he hadn’t been on top form it could have been 5 or 6! I wasn’t impressed with Marine and they seem to be in a false position!
PS see Stott got another 2 for Vauxhall yesterday!!! Perhaps he’s another one we shouldn’t have got rid of?
Always thought that Stotty was quality, but understand the budget constraints. If we intend to keep humping the ball in the air I have the perfect answer, either play Ben at Centre forward or sign Crouch!!! SBL
I thought we were poor yesterday, there’s clearly a bit of rust that needs to be shaken off.
I’m not sure how people can say Marine are in a false position based on one game, if they’re poor, then what are we?
The Chester friendly should allow the lads to get some fitness back, as well as bring in some much needed gate receipts.
It’s a bit unfair to say marine are in a false position but it was not a classic by any means. If you look back the management were quite open and vocal at the time about Stotty going and it is on record they did not want him to go but equally the budget issue had to be addressed. He is a quality player and as it stands he is one of only three players the club have released in the past two seasons that are playing at a higher level (Titch,Meechs,Stott). There are plenty that have gone the other way. This team still has a great chance and opportunity of going up but there is a lot of hard work and graft to be done to achieve this and a good turnout Tuesday would help massively with the finances off the pitch, hopefully somebody has been on deva chat
Pleased with the 7pm kick off, might enable a few kids to get down.
