Has been announced as our latest signing, from the guardian website
MARK Drew has signed on the dotted line for Witton – and Albion boss Nigel Deeley says he won’t be the last.
Drew, 24, played for Witton in the friendly against Alsager on July 12 and signed for the Wincham Park outfit for a nominal fee on Monday from UniBond First Division North side Chorley.
He’s a central midfielder, a good footballer, and he can do the things defensively as well as having an eye for a goal. We hope he will be our main playmaker.
Witton boss Nigel DeeleyWitton boss Nigel Deeley said there had been some confusion regarding the midfielder’s availability, but that had since been cleared up.
“He was a contracted player and we weren’t aware of that, and neither was he, but he is ours now. We’ve signed him for a nominal fee which is lower than the figures being banded about”, Nigel said.
“I would like to say that Chorley’s manager Tony Hesketh has been fantastic to deal with during the process.
“He’s a central midfielder, a good footballer, and he can do the things defensively as well as having an eye for a goal. We hope he will be our main playmaker.”
Drew won’t appear for Witton on Saturday against Ramsbottom United as the player is currently recovering from a hip injury.
Deeley added: “He’s got a hip injury at the moment, a slight tear, so he will rest before the treatment starts on that. He should be out for a couple of weeks but we hope he will be ready for the start of the season.
“We will be missing a few regulars on Saturday for various reasons. Scott Willis and Tony Dunne are injured so we will look to bring some trialists in and a couple of younger boys.
“The supporters will see some new faces and it will be a decent run out in terms of keeping the fitness levels up.”
Deeley said the arrival of Drew wouldn’t be the only signing Albion would make this week.
“We are hoping to tie up three or four this week. I don’t want to name names as other clubs will come calling but we hope to sort it out.”
Meanwhile, Witton chairman Mark Harris has confirmed that the club are yet to hear from the FA regarding Adam Warlow’s transfer to Fleetwood.
The association are to set a date to discuss the fee Albion should receive from the Blue Square North club but Harris said he is yet to hear from them
