Market Drayton Town v Witton Albion

Thought we looked, first half, as if we subconsciously thought that it was enough just to turn up. Very uninspiring, one effort of note that was very well saved. Second half we were a little better but still far from good. To be honest when we went one up, the scoreline didn’t really reflect the balance of play but Clegg had hardly been called into action so I could only see one result. How wrong can you be? Terrible defending gifted the equaliser, then a minute later we tried to repeat it!
Witton had their best spell but once again came up against a 'keeper having a blinder. He pulled off a series of great saves, and we struck the bar twice, but with 5 minutes left schoolboy defending once again led to a goal, Clegg having to pick the ball out of the net for the second time, having been a spectator for much of the time.
I find it hard to believe that we could play so differently to last Tuesday, with pretty much the same personnel. Far too much messing about at the back, no creativity in midfield, poor balls into the box, unwillingness to shoot for a long period of the game.
Positive points - after last Saturday it was refreshing to see a game played without cynicism, and full marks to the referee for an excellent performance (despite the ridiculous yellow card early on). I’m certain had this man been in charge on Saturday we’d have won the game. Positive points for Witton? Well, even with a poor performance we created chances and with a bit of luck could have scored several goals, but our approach play has to be much better.

Agree with all of Mr T’s comments unfortunately and unusually!

This weekend is now massive for us though, nothing less than 2 wins will do! No pressure!

Its ever since I came back from Spain…I must be a Jonah !! :frowning:

To be honest I thought it might be me;

Away on holidays P2 W2 L0 GF 8 GA 2
Back from holiday P2 W0 L0 GF 1 GA 4

I’ll get me coat…

Nul points from Market Drayton though it was pleasing to see 2 teams playing competitively and in a sportsmanlike fashion, accompanied by one of the best refereeing displays I’ve seen for some time at a place that was friendly and where they genuinely like to watch football. Good luck to them, so long as we can have 3 points in the reverse fixture!

Agree with most authors, can only add it felt like we expected little opposition and were underwelmed by the facilities, they were long ball, work hard and hope for a bit of luck type of team and it worked for them on the day on a narrow pitch that did not help to play football, keeper had a great game but my impression before the game and after it was that a 3 or 4 -1 win was the order of the day ( on the basis our defence cannot keep a clean sheet ) they were poor and we did not play well at all- my early season confidence has drained rapidly, to beat teams like this we need to have a partner for foster that carries a goal threat with pace - Rudd unfortunately appears to have neither, I like his honest approach and hard work rate but he rarely wins a header and his lack of pace does not complement foster.

Lets hope saturday/monday brings back confidence to me and the team :slight_smile:
