Witton’s Academy team will hope to play their first game of the year on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Matlock Town in an NPL Football Academy - Joma Division fixture. Having the first three games since the festive festive period postponed isn’t the best preparation but, the weather can’t always be beaten unfortunately. Witton are handily placed in the table and have performed well so far this season but consistency can be a problem particularly with so many disruptions. An entertaining game is possible between the two sides, as both like to be positive and approach the game in the right way. Kick off at Causeway Lane is 1pm.

Witton’s Academy team went down to a narrow defeat against Matlock Town on Wednesday afternoon, in a fixture switched to Dimensions Leisure Centre in Stoke on Trent because of the weather.
Albion made an excellent start and were rewarded by leading scorer Owen Wynne 's goal early in the First half. Matlock got back into the game through skipper Harry Wood and within minutes, Billy Whitehead had given the Derbyshire club the lead and they took that advantage into the break.
Ethan Harding levelled for Witton with two minutes of normal time remaining, before Harry Wood added his second for Matlock to seal the points in the 94th minute… Perhaps the most pleasing aspect of the game, was the return of goalkeeper Josh Tyler-Williams playing his first game since the serious injury he suffered earlier in the season - ironically against today’s opponents.
