One more goal lads, please!!!
WHS.
Full Time Score: MATLOCK TOWN 4 WITTON ALBION 3. (After Extra Time).
Unlucky lads, sounds like they really gave it a go
Great effort lads!
i believe it was a last min extra time winner, so close
Just got back after a long jouney. 2-3 inches of snow on the road and thick fog coming out of Buxton.
Totally gutted at the result.
Dylan Adams fell sick today, so couldn’t travel. Paul Booth failed a late fitness test, so Lewis made his debut at right back.
No Henry either, not sure why, somebody said he was suspended.
Rudd came on for Lewis at half time, as Lewis looked a bit overawed at full back.
When the referee gave them a penalty, it looked like it was all over, especially when she also sent Joe off (yes she!). With only ten men, and 3-1 down it looked like a lost cause, but full praise to the lads, who never gave up. When it went 3-3, it looked like we were going on to win it. The amount of effort put in by the lads definetly deserved it.
It was 10:20pm when they scored the winning goal…gutted
Wow what a game ive just got home and still cant believe what i saw! 2-0 down at half time and the conditions made our passing game useless so 2nd half we played out of our skins! at 3-1 with 10 men and pritch in goal it seemed we were dead and buried yet 2 quick goals including a screamer from heller sent the large and very vocal wittoners into dream land :cheer:
extra time and every player gave there everything for the cause, we looked shattered yet still battled on and created chances only to be denied in the last 2 mins of the second period (talking of periods the lady referee was awful!!)
At the final whistle the team had done us all proud, they were soaked and covered in mud but all those who were there will tell you how unbelievably proud we were to support such a great set of players! A night i wont forget in a hurry and believe me we looked like the premier league team even with ten men its just unforunate that kidderminster will be playing the weaker team of this tie!
PROUD TO BE A WITTONER
Very proud to be a Wittoner after last nights performance.
Players and management hold your heads high after last nights battle with 10 men for the most part…against a team that have just won club of the month in the prem.
Special mention, Brian Pritchard…absolute legend. Overhead kick on Saturday followed by a confident goalkeeping display. Nearly saved the pen and couldnt have done anything about the winner.
Thanks to the Matlock fans and club in general, they played well and were dangerous going forward.
Not keen on having a female ref at all, it just didnt work.
If we had won then this game would have gone down as one of the greats but i must say i really enjoyed it non the less (still gutted it didnt swing our way tho)
I think if we had reached penalties then we would have won…
Roll on Saturday hope the players have enough time to recover!!
woman refs for womans football. !!!
Women are very good at a lot of things ending in " ing " but refereeing is not one of them ! Should never have given them the vote !
Echo all the posts so far, a simply superb effort in the second half and very proud of the lads. I’ve said before that whilst you are disappointed when losing it is easier to swallow when the effort levels are what they were.
We gifted them the first two goals and if you add the penalty then their third as well. I thought what undid us last night was having to change the formation that has suited us so well in recent weeks. We don’t have the strength in depth unfortunately to replace absent players and this is always going to be a challenge given the playing budget. Personally I would have lined up the same way as the last few games and played Brodie as a direct swap for Henry, with Foster alone upfront. Unfortunate that Booth failed his fitness test as he would have been a massive different at right back. Horrible game for Lewis to start and as a left back in a right back role (against Hannah who is a good player).
The pitch is always poor at Matlock and did not allow for particularly nice football throughout. By the end of the 120 minutes it was so heavy that it was almost impossible to run on, let alone dribble a football.
Unfortunately we paid the price of giving a higher league team a two goal start at home, but our fight back was immense and encouraged by fantastic away support. We had chances to win it, in the first period of extra time we nearly scored twice and even when we went down to 4-3 their keeper made a good save to stop an equaliser and penalties.
Pritch embodied everything good about our effort last night, he was confident and alert in goal and made some great stops, he was just refusing to be beaten. Amazing how highly they regard him at Matlock and their forum shows this.
If we play as we did last night against sides in our division (just like we did on Saturday against Sheffield) then we are more than capable of going up. Let’s take the positives from this game into the league, we were never going to win the FA Trophy but we can get promoted.
Well done lads, huge effort and in the end unlucky not to have gone through. You did us proud.
Woman referee, in truth she was no worse then her male counterparts. I thought last night might just have been too big a game for her and the decision to give her this game was the error. She had a better game than the linesman on the stand side who was just a p***k!
Then maybe after the game she came down on him heavily.
It aint worth having a sub keeper when you have pritch there in cas of what happened last night. Its happened twice recently but very very rare before that. Think i remmember conners in goal away at ilkeston a few years back and if i remmember rightly he didnt conceed.
I would rather use the money on strengthening any other areas that may need strengthening. Obviously we will need cover for Cleggy for his ban, hopefully one or more of these bans will fall on the lesser important cup matches.
Ive been told to be nice about the lady ref by my better half who thinks were all being very sexist so here goes…hmmm…she had nice hair i suppose
So was it was better to have Boothy (who was unfit) on the bench rather than a sub goalie ?
Boothy failed a late fitness test, therefore travelled in the hope of playing. In those circumstances, yes i would prefer to have Boothy in the match squad. Had he been passed fit we wouldnt of had a left footer playing at right back, and the balance of the team would have been better.
All very well to wish for a sub keeper now…but hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Boothy never had a chance of playing and so why did we sign a keeper just after the Carlton game ? Not criticising Pritch in any way - he does the role well - but we could have done with him in the defence last night along with Ruffer and Rudd especially in extra-time.
Think you are allowed 5 subs anyway so having Boothy named as a sub wouldn’t have stopped a goalie been on the bench as well-if there had been one there!!!
Exactly !
So where is the extra money coming from? Or have we found a keeper that will play for free?
