I was going to have a rant about today, the team and what we should consider doing but I decided not to because it would not help the club in anyway. Quite simply we are in a mess both on and off the field.
WHS.
i’ll rant about today.firstly only 4 people turned up for jims VIP day and only 2 players turned up for the 2nd half.we seem to have a lot of voices at the club but i did’nt see any of them them at todays game.rugby league must be more important than WAFC.
As CJ said on the other thread we were in control heading into half time 1-0 until Corbett gave that ridiculous penalty away, he then stood and watched their no.7 walk past and curl a shot into the top corner! The players we need to step up and drag us out of this mess just aren’t, thought Gards played really well today.
Sullivan tweeted time for changes and can’t wait to see them at Skem, because this group at the moment is failing miserably

At this rate we will be needing a new signing .
Witton will always be more important to me Matt, as it was on Wednesday and Thursday when you understandably had other things to do.
Won’t be long till the albs turn the corner - hopefully I will be there to see that one.
It happened last season and has been all to familiar this. We can’t keep conceding the number of goals we have during games and expect to win games , Ben is a quality footballer but can’t be expected to do it on his own, the penalty given away was just ridiculous, the second we allowed their man to get the ball ,turn run at us, shoot and score totally unchallenged and seeing the managers reaction to this summed it all up to be fair. As for the third, again a silly challenge resulting in an average free kick that seemed to go in all to easy. Again we have nobody who organises or takes control on the pitch ,a natural leader shall we say, what I wouldn’t give for a Steve Mcnelis or Andy Grimshaw at the moment.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there is massive change on the pitch over the coming months because the way we are playing at the moment its certainly needed.
come and see me when you’re not full of ale,how was the rugby
Well we were fine, 1-0 to the good and could have been more, we were playing a team who’s manger had walked after last weekend (familiar?? mmm). Gave away a penno and heads went down, lack of confidence in a squad seeps through them all, second half just wasn’t good (though we could have scored a couple with a bit of luck mind!) but we just capitulated again…it’s just baffling.
I remain convinced that the finances being aired as they were did this, if a couple of players had to be released just do it and then say why instead of the hand wringing that went on. I do point out that I have the upmost of respect and admiration for all at the club, really, but it was just the wrong way to go about it (just my thoughts). The farcical FA cup exit was just a team devastated and unable to cope, I was fortunate enough not to have travelled for that. Sully and his team who I’m very impressed with have a job on here, lets hope they can get this shambles sorted!
Its a bit basic, but we’re lacking a leader. Somebody with the personality to drag the rest of the lads to whatever result we’re aiming for on the day. At 1-0 we were the better side and I expected us to go on and win, even accounting for the Witton factor. But at 1-1 all that goes out the window.
We need a captain on the pitch who will stand up and demand more. The individual talent is there, but at the moment the lads seem as nervous as we are.
Away to top of the table next
A leader would be good but we need more than that, we need an established secure keeper, a centre back who can command at set pieces and not make basic mistakes, a creative midfield player Powell and Davidson are too similar, and whilst we seem to have 3-4 good strikers they are not yet clicking as a goal force, Harvey is scoring but does he do enough otherwise ?
My hope is that Tony has the contacts at the right level to be able to bring in what we need and that our budget can manage to support that ! Still depressed today
We also seem to try and walk the ball into the net, its almost like we’re afraid of missing so we keep passing it around the box and 9/10 the defence intercept the ball and clear the danger! Lets have some more shots on goal please!
Kennedy the Matlock keeper got man of the match yesterday yet i can barely remember him making a genuine save, came and caught the ball a few times but wasn’t really tested considering the possession we had especially in the first half.
We were saying during the game that individually we dont have a bad player in the team but they seem to have lost all confidence in themselves and i cant see where our next victory is going to come from?
Should beat Barnton, but I cannot see us winning before that. Defenders should do JUST that, defend not be under the misguided impression that they are Maradonna in disguise. If it is in our box it should be “HOOFED” as far as possible by defenders. That goal not only changed the score-line it changed the whole demeanour of the team from a confident bunch enjoying their football, even closing down the opposition defenders in their own half, something I have not seen since Nigel Gleghorn was manager, to a rabble who seemed to have forgotten how to play. I have saved this rant until this morning as I have now calmed down. Yesterday I was tempted to agree with someone who said we should pack it in and amalgamate with Kronenberg 1666 or whatever. I now realise that this idea is about as much a none starter as Robbo suddenly taking a liking to me!!
The Board need financial help that is certain but they should not be shouting it from the rooftops, it should be happening behind the scenes, a quiet search for people who can make a substantial contribution to the club in either time or money or preferably both. As for our new manager I wish him the best of luck and will back him all the way as long as he NEVER says “The team gave 110%” ever again!! You can only have 100% of anything and if that is effort from all concerned I will happily settle for that. I wish I had the time and money to go on the Board but I don’t, but I will always be a Wittoner. Rant over, now we move “Onwards and Upwards”.
WHS.
Awful second half. I notice that no one has said that the players gave their all because they certainly didn’t. About as much effort in the second half as a dead dog chasing a parked car. There must be a clear out because this team is going down. It isn’t because they are bad players because apart from the centre-half who gave them a couple of goals they are all good enough. Maybe they need to move to play well again because they are not doing it for us. Not sure why the manager brought our best 2 players off though. I will be at Skem next week because I support the team by cheering for them when they play but my patience is wearing thin. Why should I pay for that?
Well Iam definately 110% behind the new manager UTA
I am also fully behind the new management team and after hearing Tony talk last Thursday evening I am confident he will get it right. Tony made it quite clear that he would give the current players the opportunity to impress before making changes. After Saturday I am sure he will know what changes are needed. Trust in the manager he will get it right…UTA
I’ve not heard anyone say there not behind the Manager, on the 2 occasions i have talked to him ive been impressed by what hes had to say but i dont think Alex Ferguson or Mourinho could make much difference to the results at the moment.
Its baffling why a side which looked fantastic at times only weeks ago now look like a Sunday league side, first half yesterday i thought once we took the lead we would stroll to a comfortable victory! We give away a silly penalty and from then on you could see the confidence drain from the team!
Just a couple of notes from whats already been said when i wrote i cant see where our next wins coming from and someone said probably Barnton in the Mid Cheshire Cup well as far as i believe we are only playing our reserves in that competition this year so if true that rules it out and i read another comment regarding why take off our best players? TBH i thought Titch was the correct player to take off, he seems to almost be trying too hard to get a goal and its just not clicking for him right now, Bakkor coming on for him was the right idea as Scott causes panic in defenders and he did well considering everyones heads were down when he was brought on.
We go to top of the league on Saturday and hopefully we can turn the formbook upside down!
UTA
Jesus, you must be a massive fan. What’s it like going to every Witton game?
I went paintballing Saturday…I guess I should never be allowed near Wincham park again?
Losing Harvey as reported elsewhere is a severe blow, we need to keep our good players and he was certainly one of them.
