Mickleover Sports v Witton Albion, U1S

I thought it was a shame when Lee Coathup left, i thought the combibation of him and GF was good

Where’s Officer Dibble when you need him… :cheer:

Why, has he managed at this level?

Firstly I actually enjoyed going on Saturday and thought the match was really good. Mickleover have big defenders a great balance in midfield and quick players up front. Their passing and movement was a delight to watch and they could have been 3 up at half time but for Baker making great saves. They are managed and coached by Dick Pratley an ex Derby county player and its plain to see that he knows what he’s doing and that his team is very disciplined. In short Mickleover are with out doubt the best team in this league and are on top by merit.
That said our lads tried hard on Saturday and I was pleased to see more effort than of late from many of them. Once Luke had been put wide on the left he caused them no end of problems in the 2nd half cumulating in the best goal of the game. With a bit of luck we could have got a draw that we didn’t really deserve but no disgrace getting beat by them and I hope they go up automatically!
As for us its not looking good not just for the rest of the season but for the next few years. To say we have underacheieved this season is completley right I expected more from our team and unfortunately this comes down to how they have been managed. You could see the diffrence with the Dick Pratley guy who was shouting encouragement to fhis team all through the match and giving them instructions as well.
This kind of thing does not appear to be in Gary’s makeup unfortunately. Gary is great at getting players in but unfortunately can’t manage and mould them into a team. Unfortunately the chairman seems to give the impression that Gary is the answer but I’m afraid he isn’t. We need to get a manager who can bring on younger players, has contacts and can motivate them into an effective unit. We need a combination of Gary’s good contacts in the game coupled with a Nigel Gleghorn type who can coach and develop young players. We have had some comments about Jim Vince on here and Jim was successful and very close to that combination but could not just go that extra 10 yards to get us up when it came to the crunch. His belief was you could go up playing pure football. I disagreed with him on this as sometimes when playing the Telfords and Fleetwoods you needed a physical presence in our normally very creative midfield.
So where do we go from here. Well Gary certainly carries the can for our failures as he’s had the backing from the Chairman and board with a good budget for this league and he is supposed to motivate the football team. We need to look for a manager who can work on a shoestring yet challenge for a play off spot next season with what will be a reduced budget. So assuming our chairman does eventaully come to the conclusion as most of us have here that we need a new manager who do we go for?
I would like to see someone like Carl Macauly (Ex player), Danny Johnson, The guy at Newcastle Town is doing a good job, but I’m sure there are people out there who would love to manage Witton Albion. One thing is for sure we cannot continue as we are with the present squad many of whom can go for me. Also as I’ve stated on here before we have a guy in Pritch who symbolises all thats good about the club. Brian has a demanding career outside of footie but if and when he hangs up his boots I’d love to see him in some kind of role as a bridge between dressing room, board ,and fans. Here is a guy who can only be a role model to any prospective Witton albion footballer so if he’s willing lets use him rather than lose him!!
So sorry for me Gary has to go with our best wishes and lets see who might apply. This needs to be sorted now before another season of mediocrity!!
So please Mark H i know its difficult but please lets try again with someone else in charge of the team!

i must be missing something here,
we have eight games to go =24points possible,
and we are only four points off second place in the league.

the time for changes must be if we do not make the
playoffs, not while we still chasing a playoff spot.

I agree with you Toneee, while there is still an outside chance of the play offs then we have to stick with what we’ve got. However, as soon as it becomes impossible to reach 5th place then i think the chairman needs to act quickly. The last thing we would want is another pre-season of trying to pull a squad together at the last minute.

totally agree, lets see what the next few matches bring,
until then lets get behind OUR CLUB.

Good post Mona. Enough said.

Sadly these days football seems to be more about money than football. Teams have to want to gain promotion otherwise why bother playing? To say we cannot afford to go up, there is an old saying in business, and football is a business, “If you don’t expand, you contract” and at the moment we are contracting badly, we need to expand and to do this we need more income, either through the gates, through sponsorship or by selling the ground and moving on; the only certain thing is that we cannot continue as we are or we will “Go Broke”.
WHS.

Can we not get behind Gary and the lads for a final push towards the Play Offs and wait and see what happens, before we start laying into him !

I know if I was Gary (and the players) reading some of the stupid comments on here I would be inclined to say why should we bother !!!

WHS u seem to be expanding on this thread and contracting on the Steve Foster thread ?

First of all, valid arguments that Finley isn’t doing the best job. Second of all, valid arguments that he IS doing an alright job HOWEVER…

I personally think that whilst we have a shout of getting into the play offs, and getting out of this league we have to grit our teeth and try and get behind the manager in the hope that if we do we might actually get something positive going?
Yes, i know a lot of people do have concerns about the manager and they don’t think we’re reaching the full potential that we should be achieving and they’re rightly entitled to their opinion and can post it on here (we’re not in a dictatorship here!). As with everything there are two sides to every story and the people who wish to support the manager and think he’s doing a great job can post their opinions.

Either way my general opinion is that just openly slagging the manager off saying he’s p*ss poor and should leave instantly can only do detriment to the club at the moment. The club needs unity when we’re battling for promotion to get as many points as possible, yes?
My opinion of whether Finley is doing a good job or not is obsolete (at the moment), but i’ll try and give my backing for as long as we have a chance of making play offs and getting back into the unibond premier. IF we don’t secure play offs, then may be it would be the right time to start asking questions when we have nothing valuable (results wise) to lose.

As for the statement that we don’t want promotion - what a load of b******s! If a football club isn’t striving to get as high up the ladder as possible, what is the point in the club being in existence?!
I personally believe that a football clubs’ (and their fans for that matter) ultimate goal and dream would be to see their team in the premiership, and no matter how far-fetched it may seem for any club it is a dream, and that requires promotion.
The generally accepted rule is: Promotion = Higher player costs, be that wages or transfer fees, but also
Promotion = Higher Football status/pedigree = More interest/bigger fan base = Higher attendances + more replica shirts bought = Higher revenues = Increase in club value = More likely an investor would invest, should it be needed. Can’t really see any plausible down side for getting promotion?
Tell me you wouldn’t like Witton Albion to be in the premiership at some point in its future?!

Pssssh, long time no post. Rant over.

Good post Maniac - just what we want - WP was like a cemetery on a wet night against Brigg - we need to be out of this league and we still have a chance, the players seem to be giving it a go and we should do the same.
You never know we could have some positive news this week ?

Know something we don’t Eli?

The baiting of GF is pathetic at this stage of the season and our position in the league.

Hear bloody hear!!

It is a football fans right to moan at the manager, the chairman, the board and the team, in some cases it is the only reason they support the club!! But those same moaners pay at the turnstyle, they buy the right to moan, they also like to be proved incorrect, so come on Mr Manager, Mr Chairman, the Board and the team, prove the moaners wrong.
WHS.

I went over the top in my rant and I apologise for some of what I said. The timing was wrong. TONEE put me right in the club Tuesday night. Mine is only a personal opinion as I feel GF is not the man to take the playing side of the club forward in the future. That said I’m right behind Gary and the lads for the run in honestly so I hope you go and prove me wrong and we get in the play offs!! I’ll be there Saturday at Belper urging the lads on and if they show the effort they did at Mickleover we can have no complaints. However we do need to raise our game from the display against Brigg and hopefully 3 points will be ours.
On a lighter note was chatting to Ernie Fryer Tuesday night. Ernie if you read this don’t always agree with your views on our games but I do know our club really benefits from you being around in lots of ways. Long may you continue to be with us and keep up the camararderie!!

You don’t want to listen to Toneeee Mona !

mona, theres no need for any apology, we all have our own oppions.
its nice to be able to discuss them with a drin after the game.
it would be so boreing if everybody had the same oppion.

one question, why are you called MONA. :stuck_out_tongue:

see you sat.
