Mickleover Sports vs Witton Albion.

Witton begin life in the Evo-Stik Premier Division with a trip to Mickleover Sports, following their promotion campaign last season. The majority of last season’s squad have remained and new faces have arrived for the challenges that await but, the management team and the players, look forward to testing themselves in what is surely going to be a tough test but a challenge they will relish. Mickleover finished last season in 16th place in the division and will be hoping to improve on that this time around. The game is only Witton’s second ever visit to the Derbyshire club and the first for seven years. Their last visit being in 2010 where the Albion were narrowly beaten by the odd goal in three, Mickleover eventually going up as Champions at the end of that season. Sports have also added to the squad in Pre Season so it will be interesting to see how both teams knit together and results will be the ultimate test. Kick off at The Don Amott Arena is 3pm.

I’ve been looking forward to this one since the final whistle went against Spalding. I’ve been a very long time since I last went there but I grew up only a few hundred yards away from Mickleover’s ground (Used to have their floodlights keeping me awake at night!) so feeling very nostalgic about this fixture. It’s also my first of many Witton away days (not counting the Vics relegation tomfoolery last season!) so a good one to kick off with! I’ve got family who still watch these regularly so 3 points here would be very sweet!

Regarding pubs, the Great Northern was once my local and is only a very short walk away from the ground. It went from being a sh*thole to a very nice gastro-pub back in the day, although it’s been a good 10 years since I last went in so can’t vouch for it now although I hear it’s still very good. The Nags Head in the centre of Mickleover is a family regular to this day and there’s also a pub on the way in from the A50 called the Seven Wells which I remember being a safe bet for food.

UTA!

The waiting is almost over.

Good luck to the team, hopefully we get off to a flying start and push on for a good season. This team wil give it everything so let’s get behind them in style. UTA

Might park round the corner and walk that last 177 ft. (I’ve heard it’s only 176 ft. anyway).
