Hi All: I’m the Chairman of the MCSL and we are looking to recruit more teams into the League.
It is our 50th Anniversary this season and have seen some excellent footballers grace our pitches since 1966,
many who have progressed into local football & some who were household names in Senior local football who
ventured into the Sunday scene in the '70s & '80s as the standards were so good. Indeed, names like John Goryl,
David Swain, Don Ratcliffe, more recent Adam Foy, Paul Hennin & Danny Gee played in the MCSL as well as for
Witton.
In the 1980s our very own Witton Albion Supporters FC played their games at Chinkers & even WHS was a Club
Secretary back in the day.
However, times are hard & the 21st century pub trade are not as keen to have football teams connected to them -
they’d rather have Sunday Lunchers.
Saturday football in the Cheshire League is booming at present & it has increased its membership by ten
to 68.
The MCSL are sitting with 14 as our membership at present.
The main reason for mentioning this on this Forum is that, some of you who are into Social Media, can hopefully
mention this on that Farcebook or Twi-er [I’m going to campaign for the double T to remain - if not, we’ll be watching
Wi-on in the future!!]
I have co-opted the help of Mark Edgeley from 1874 as the League’s first Social Media person & the more help from
anywhere will hopefully find additional teams for next season. I have extended the possibility of having more teams,
till 31 July.
