Not good then?
The chips weren’t bad.
could somebody who attended the match at middlewich post a match report , please.
Raul, what do you want to know?!
We lost 2 - 0. The first coming from a corner when our man on the far post left his position, and allowed Middlewich an easy goal in an area of the net that should really have been covered. The second was a speculative shot from distance that could quite easily have ended up on the nearby atsroturf picth (ok it was a cracking goal, but we don’t need to know that bit…)
Ben Thornley looked fitter, and could do a job for us in the right areas (the wing not being one of them…). Coyne again looked very good in the air, but i am still not sure about his positional sense and/or awareness as he and Pritch seemed to be getting pulled too far apart far too often (including when there wasn’t any danger…). Smith put in a decent stint in a wide left position, but i think he’d do better in the middle. Gaghan looked full of positive running again, and i would have him in the first XI. Gouldbourne looked like he can make a nuisance of himself, but is VERY raw and needs alot of coaching if he is to become a real asset for us. Rod Thornley was Rod Thornley, and again gave 100% effort. I don’t think that Settle has the turn of pace required to be an effective winger.
It was the first time i have seen Scott Willis play, and i was very impressed with his ability. He is clearly as mad as a box of frogs though!! But i like that…
Mark Drew is also a good player, as is Gary Scott.
Other than that, there isn’t much else to report…
Too many players trying to impress the manager last night and not enough team play. You are right Robbo - Steve Smith is not a wide player. I am also concerned about the 2 centre backs but an understanding may develop ? The fullbacks will be ok - Gary Scott especially. Not so sure about Gaghan thou ? The young lad Ross Thacker looks a better prospect but would have to see him play a few league games first. Also we have not seen Tony Dunne play yet have we ? he is a midfield player. Scoring goals is our biggest problem at the minute - maybe Lugsden when he is fit will be the man. Big Zane from Goulbourne is worth persevering with I think.
Keep the faith.
i cant bring myself to comment. But i can see this ‘keep the faith’ message continually appearing at the bottom of match reports.
So what?? Worst case scenario we finish bottom and don’t score a goal all season. We still have a Club, a ground, a fanbase, a history. Look at what Luton are going through. You support your team, you fall down but you get back up again. That’s not just football - IT’S LIFE!!!
So, for all those that didn’t get the memo; KEEP THE FAITH!!!
If you’re reading Mike Holman - I didn’t put him up to that!
well said robbo we all know its gonna be tough going this year after all this is almost a brand new side, my feeling is were gonna have a few more downs than ups but we must all pull together for the sake of nigel and the club.
being a wittoner is more than a marrige, if your not happy with your wife/husband then u get divorced but u cant divorce witton its in our blood! i admit when i moved to wakefield in 1990 i didnt attend many games but always looked to see how witton had done, i got involved with some huddersfield fans and spent many years going to watch them but i couldnt escape the pull of witton and now i know this is my club
my huddersfield mates think im crazy as its only £100 for a season ticket there this year as part of their centenury season but ive told them instead of watching the likes of leeds and leicester im going to frickly and marine!
sorry for warbling on all im trying to say is…
KEEP THE FAITH!!
friendly matches count for nothing. nigel will have learnt a lot about his players which includes who will be good enough . another important thing is these matches bring on match fitness. as supporters that is what we will have to do - support nigel and the players. our expectations for this season should not be aimed too high as there are clubs with plenty of money behind them like eastwood bradford guisley ilkeston fc united to name just a few. another problem for nigel is the fact that only two players are left from last season. i hope that this posting does not sound too negative as i am trying to be realistic.i would be happy with a mid table finish but what is important to myself is to see every player in every match giving their all.the performances last season at home to fleetwood and worksop were unacceptable and any repeat of i will speak up about.
Keep the Faith.
Faith who?
Faith Brown you silly !!:cheer:
Or is it Adam Faith ?? Hmmmmmmmm.
