FANtastic!? more “Wittoners” prattling on about last nights game at Garforth than bothered to turn up,you should have been there “Brian Pritchards Red and White Nine!!”
Interesting point brought up JAP ! Deserves a thread of it’s own I think ?
There could be a few reasons - mainly -
Dramatic rise in petrol & diesel prices as well as food and utility bills !
The enforced winter break due to the exceptionally bad weather !( I think some fans have found other things to do with their cash and time ?)
The sudden loss of the manager under alleged " dodgy circumstances " ?
The class of league we are in ?
I think we can all relate to at least one of the reasons and it is not just Witton that is suffering.
I think that a few clubs will be looking very hard at their chances of keeping going ?
Hat’s off to the faithful few!
The Garforth game was originally a Saturday fixture which fell foul of the weather in December. It’s a long way for a cold February night.
I’ve had to limit my matches so whilst I prefer the camaraderie of away games I’d rather spend my money at Wincham Park.
I have said it before,Sky Sports is the root of the problem. The football watching public each season is reduced because more of us are watching lunchtime football at home on a winters afternoon and simply not bothering to attend a live game.
Throw into the mix other ways of watching live football, via a big dish stuck on the side of the pub wall and semi-pro football is buggered.
When we played away at Prescot, close to the ground was a pub with 20-30 people stood outside having a fag break. Why were those punters not a hundred yards away in the social club of Valerie Park enjoying a pre-match pint.
We can all afford now and again the money to attend a non-league game. The trouble is all the stay away fans think its the Premiership or nothing else.
At the start of the season, we were told that mid-week games would be played on Wednesday nights. Of course, this only applies to home games. As such, I kept Wednesday nights free of other commitments and I have not missed a mid-week home game. The same can’t be said for mid-week away games, as I made other commtments on Tuesday nights.
I am sure this may also apply to other fans who have missed mid-week away games like Garforth
