Alsager Town, demoted back into the Vodkat North West Counties League, have unveiled Neil Gill as their new manager.
The 38-year-old arrives from Witton Albion, where he has been running the UniBond League Premier side`s reserves.
As a player, Merseysider Gill turned out for South Liverpool and coached with the Cheshire FA before being put in charge of first Winsford reserves and then Witton.
Gill said: “I am big on developing players and will be looking to put together a blend of youth and experience with those I have worked with over the last few years.”
Gill, who is from Winsford, has to work virtually from scratch as the Alsager team that finished last season has dispersed.
He said: "It is a big challenge, but I am up for it. The club and the community has a fresh start and we have a set plan.
“It won’t work overnight but, as the season progresses, a few people might be quite surprised and take notice.”
and guess who gave him a glowing reference to get the job…
… right in one, JV. I believe he is taking most (if not all) of Northwich Uniteds team with him.
My reaction to this is so what? Normally I would be disappointed but then I thought about all the reseve players who have burst into the 1st team in the last couple of years and made a place their own
None!!!
Oh well.
I think Robbo should be applying for the job as a step up!
Reading between the lines of what Nige has already said, I imagine that we would maybe be looking for some sort of link with Alsager maybe??? Although no reserve team players established themselves in the first team last season, I think it would be foolish not to include Woolley, Rutter, Drohan etc in our squad for the new season. Young ambitious players that won’t demand a fortune, perfect in our current climate!
Motion carried ;), self funded in the Crewe & District league or the (formerly known) East Cheshire Saturday league, or even at a push Sunday Mid Cheshire or East Cheshire
Would just like to thank Neil for the work he did with the reserves. A few of the lads did look very capable when they filled in during the league cup campaign.
