New Front Page Please

Please can we have an update to the Front Page on the website. I want to start looking forward to next season rather than be reminded of what happened last time. Even if its just a big clock showing the countdown to next season’s first game, a picture of the Pritch Flag, or a rallying cry to buy season tickets…anything please

Hear hear.

yeh i agree the website updating is rubbish…surely someone would love to update it regularly? ???

Never call a volunteers efforts rubbish please. >:( Suggest you review the post.

fairplay i apologise to whoever updates the website i shouldnt have said rubbish but is still in drastic need of change in my opinion.

it does need updating, the most recent info on there isn’t even our last game (thankfully…!!).

Let’s get some Supporters Team stuff on there for now!!!

Thank you!

hear hear!!!

We really do need to improve our web presence for next season (and that is by no way critical of hard work put in by others). The difficulty is that maintaining a web site and publishing pages takes time and of course it is all time invested for no return!

I’m not really sure what the status is with the official site, however I am sure that Mike would appreciate any assistance with this wittonalbion.co.uk site. There is no doubt that we could make this an attractive, regularly updated, imformative site.

I have limited time to put into it but will drop Mike an email. Is there anyone else who reads the forums with html/php or general design skills. I am sure that any input would be appreciated. For one person the weekly volume of work to maintain the site is a big ask. That said it would be good to try and create something before the new season.

[br]Posted on: July 02, 2007, 09:12:29 PM
OK, had an hour or two to spare last night whilst the Mrs watched something shocking on ITV and Big Brother, so…

I have knocked up a couple of quick designs and flirted these over to Mike (who continues to manage/host/pay for this forum and the wittonalbion.co.uk site). The rough designs have done are the product of 3 hours work so they will need to be finessed and they will need to be adapted to fit the content management code that drives the site. For anyone that knows the site is currently driven by Joomla which is good for content management but tends to be technical led rather than design led (so there are some compromises).

Anyway here are some quick suggested page designs;

As this is an unofficial site it is supporter focused. We may need to talk to the board at some point to get the go ahead on use of logos, etc. Plus we need to get pictures into the site which are all copyright of the photographer.

My thoughts are that we have banners at the top of pages with images and strap lines from the Robinson/Green compositions. Within the site we can include Supporters Team reports, Social Events, Away Travel Details, along with the obvious First Team Match Reports/Fixtures. If anyone wants to write articles then they can go on the site as well.

Any thoughts/comments?

Bearing in mind that the "new official site" appears to be locked in a time warp - eg season ticket prices for 2004/05! etc - then I’m all for moving our long established and very much in the main, reliable site - courtesy of Mike T. of course- forward.

I like the look of what you’ve come up with last evening and if people of a similar vein to Simon can help Mike then the future will look even rosier.

I’m sure Keith Clayton will only be too happy to submit his photos, indeed Mike was on Keith’s mailing list along with myself and the programme printers last season.

Whilst I dont want to get involved with the website as much as I was a few years ago I’m happy to provide a few details for inclusion re Shop/Travel/events etc

Looks good to me TWR !

Just goes to show what talent is around if we can harness it for the club.

looks FANTASTIC Si, just what we need going forward for the new season ;D ;D

Well done rabbit they look great

The site will get updated in the next couple of weeks, now I’m on holiday! Constant work on renovating my house, combined with new job, has meant I’ve had little spare time this year, hence my infrequent appearance at games last season.

I’ll be getting in touch with Simon regarding a new template, and am happy to look after the technical side of things and add content when I can. However, my intention when setting up the latest version of this site was to provide a framework that others could contribute content to, which is why I chose to use Joomla. Anyone who can contribute anything to the site, please get in touch with me (use the pm system).

Len / Jim / Andy C / Anyone else involved with fundraising, I’ll be in touch regarding the proposal I had last year for using this site for fundraising, I can set the web side of things up but it would be good to get some publicity in place for the unveiling. Potentially could be a nice and not so little earner.
