NEW GROUND

On a slightly different point I have stated on the official site that the floodlights at Morecambe are going for scrap as they are moving to a new ground. They might be just what we need. Tell anyone who might be interested.

I have sent an email to Mark Harris with this information.

Always thought that Blackpool Lights were better than Morecambe’s !

Winnington Avenue FC? Or the big field next to it? I can’t help but feel that location is the key…

P.S when I said about looking round the ground I meant the numbers of Wittoners present, not the ground itself!

We were relegated, then we were relegated again, then we were relegated again. We should have secured promotion, but we didn’t. Then we should have secured promotion again, but we didn’t. Then we were relegated when we shouldn’t have been. Now we ought to have had a chance of promotion, but we have’nt. You just couldn’t make this shit up. Oh and the fckin floodlights are fcked!

Marston Mauler, it’s called being a WITTONER!! I have supported the club for over sixty years and it has taught me many times how to take defeat! But when we are successful, it is OH SO SWEET!! Supporting Witton is like life, mostly crap but just every now and then pure heaven.
WHS.

Yes but up to and including last season, and certainly this season, one could be proud to be a Wittoner. Now it’s an embarrasment! Once proud, now bowed! What’s the use anymore?

Being a Wittoner is not about winning or losing, it’s not about who is in charge, it is simply something that you are given at birth, like brown eyes. My eyes are green, I am eternally grateful nothing else is. And finally, when you are down, the only way is up. (at least I hope it is!!)
WHS.

You may have been given it at birth but many people follow witton because they choose to.

Unfortunately, not everyone chooses to continue to, hence reduced crowds this season.

People can not be blamed for staying away, they pay for entertainment and if watching 9 soul less players playing playground scrap football in front of useless officials does not justify the expense of best part of a tenner then that is how it will be.

If this continues next season and beyond there will be a few that turn up but not enough to pay for decent payers.

We are in a downward spiral and difficult to get out of:

  • we do not want to borrow money
  • no one is lending money anyway
  • crowds are down and will get lower if we stay at middle of this league
  • standard on the pitch is woefull
  • effort by many players is woefull
  • manager has not got the best out of players that should walk this league

Something drastic has to be done.

The ground sale is the only light at the end of the tunnel right now but how long will this take? Could be years rather than months and drastic action may be needed sooner rather than later.

I have to disagree Clover. I still believe that even under Mr. Finley we can find a team to win this league next season. It won’t take much, just a belief in the Club like the belief, Heler, Mosely and Prirch have. Find ten more and we are home and dry.
WHS.

The fans have the belief but the players have to as well.

Heler, Mosely and Pritch have the belief because they are heroes and that is their nature but the rest of the players do not which is where Mr Finley’s responsibilities lie in terms of recruitment, discipline, organisation and inspiration. Of those four things Mr Finley has failed at three and scored an absolute zero for one of them for me

I do have some sympathy in that the season was interrupted by freak weather etc and no team had the continuity to put a run together and break away, but we then had a chance to do something at the end to get to the playoffs and what we saw was a failure from the bench downwards

Clover you are right about action needed sooner rather than later. At the rate the club is currently going it won’t exist or if it does 2nd Division of The North West counties league with gates of 30 will be the norm.
The ground sale is crucial to the club and the area in general as non league football is on the decline (Vics latest gate 421!!)
I still think if the Marstons Arean or whatever its called is available and if it can be bought for less thas £1.5 Million we’d be foolish not to consider it. I’ve heard all the arguments that its too big , maintenance costs etc but here is a stadium already built with amenities that can be hired out to Vics, Man Utd reserves etc so a lot of the regular cost would be from that sources.
Also -:
You would wipe out the opposition at a stroke as we would be owners Vics would be rent boys (though we would have to have our money up front as they have a habit of not paying)
We could explore Man Utd reserves sharing the ground again as it was only messed up by Mr Connett.
Over the Canal New houses being built get a decent social club going and there will be lucrutive off field revenue here.
If and only if we can get the ground for less than £1.5M and we could get say £2.5 for ours than that gives you £1M in the bank. The interest off that plus Rental income, projected income from the Social side plus gate money etc would allow a reasonable budget.
Potentially the New Wincham village will be a community therefore we could get grants to build artificial pitches and have a sports village there yet more income coming in.
It could even get to the stage of the vision we had a couple of years ago where the facilities are used by mothers and toddlers and senior citizens during the day.
I appreciate some of you don’t like this idea and I can understand to a certain extent but we and local football in danger are now at a lowest and we need to thing a bit bigger and get some revenue in now. If the figures stack up and we could secure a lucrutive deal it could safeguard are club for the next generation.
OK there are a lot of ifs but doing nothing and sitting and waiting are not options anymore just like its no use waiting for Gary F to win something!!

I have to say that though there are many reservations about moving to the Marston Arena the fact that it was built for Vics should no be one of them. They are vagabonds now, gypsies who have to play where they can, we, on the other hand would own the ground and with grants could do something meaningful with it. It would not put me off supporting Witton, I would even watch them at Old Trafford!!
WHS.

It is very obvious that we can not prpogress/survive on our own with current scenario - there are various options open to us ALL of which require careful scrutiny and consideration BUT the one option that is NO lONGER a viable option is to DO NOTHING.

Wise words WWWitton !

Doing nothing works for me, but the wife is not that keen!! I think we are TOO downhearted, it has been a bad season, but we have had them before and got over it and we will this time too.
