In the programme under "Off the Pitch"I mentioned that someone at the club had suggested we add "Of Northwich"to our name. What do you lot think? It might attract more sponsorship if the towm name was in our title and it might attract people who at the moment sponsor our neighbours; anyway just an idea to kick around.
WHS.
I am not sure sire, unfortunately the word Northwich is synonymous with you know who.You may need to rethink maestro.
I think calling ourselves “Witton Albion of Northwich” would work, we would still be “Witton” or the “Albs” to us but the full name might bring in investors.
WHS
Yes,that sounds good sir.
Ridiculous idea and debate imo!
We aren’t Witton Albion of Northwich, we are Witton Albion.
Everton aren’t ‘Everton of Liverpool’ and Manchester United aren’t ‘Manchester United of Salford’.
End of discussion.
Robbo and Andy, you would be VERY surprised where this idea eminated from originally, I will just say I wouldn’t argue with him!
WHS.
WHS stand for council, lead the council and change the town name to WITTON simple solution and youd get my vote for starters :cheer:
I’ll disagree with anyone WHS if I think an idea is ridiculous!!!
Aston Villa of Birmingham F.C.
Port Vale of Stoke F.C.
Fulham/Chelsea/Ar5ena1 etc of London F.C.
We had no problems with identity and crowds when we were doing well under Stan/JV/OB!
The answer to our exposure being greater is to pull together and get out of this league - back onto the radar where Sky Sports/ Teletext etc mention our fixtures!
True Andy, but I also like CJ’s idea to change the name of our town, only there is no way on God’s earth you would get me on the council or any committee for that matter. Debate has run it’s course, it was an interesting idea but obviously not one that is ever likely to happen. However teams do have different names; weren’t the two Manchester Clubs called something else in the dim and distant past? Presumably they changed their names to incorporate the name “Manchester”. Am I right Andy and Robbo?

A mate has just told me that United were called Newton Heath from 1878 to 1902 and City were called St. Mark’s (West Gorton) from 1880 until 1894. He also tells me Birmingham City originally were called Small Heath and Sheffield Wednesday were simply called Wednesday until 1929! So it seems taking the name of your town or city for commercial reasons isn’t something new. I am done!

Back to the present, I see Hyde United have changed their name! Ever since Manchester city’s reserve side set up camp at Ewen field, everything has changed:
The club badge has turned sky blue from red.
The club has gone from being relagation fodder to a team that has won all 10 matches played this season.
Last year, their new strip was sky blue (although they have gone back to red this season).
Their stand changed its colour. Use guess yes to sky blue.
Last year they announced a change in their name to celebrate their 125th Anniversary. Yes you’ve guessed it, they dropped the ‘united’ bit off the end. They are now called just HYDE. (of course, nothing to do with their new partnership!!!
I think they are gradually loosing the identity, but their crowds have shot up from 200 to 600 on average.
Perhaps if a side that play in blue on Merseyside changed their colours to red, dropped the word Everton out of their name and adopted the name of the city they play in then they too may piggy back on the success of their neighbours
It is however always easier to do it with the assistance of a rich investor!!!
Rich investor might be tempted if we had the name of the town in our name, who knows? Anyway I am quite happy we remain “Witton Albion”.

The idea is not without merit imo, and it obviously comes from a marketeer ! now what does our Chairman do ? the thing is if you never change anything things become dull and can die - so we should at least explore new ideas and concepts id much rather that than think about groundshare - mergers etc etc, the scum acroos the canal are having another revival ( until the money runs out again ) and we cannot be complacent so I would look at anything but it does not mean it is right but check it out with potential sponsors ? and see what it could do before dismisssing it.
There is nothing wrong with the name we have. Everybody in this town knows who we are and where we are. On a wider front most people outside of this area know who we are and where we are from or located. The main priority for this club has to be to attract a bigger audience at the stadium and get more bums on seats, simple. How putting the towns name in the clubs name will do that i am not so sure. We already have two teams with the towns name already, just coincidence they have the same initials! I know football is about place but its not our fault that the Witton parish name has been consumed by the towns name is it? I think it would just confuse the issue more to have three teams with the towns name in myself.
So how do we get more bums on seats? If you look closely off the pitch things have been happening in the past few months. We have a stadium named after a fantastic cause, sunday markets, a pro clubs youth team using the pitch, the juniors back in the fold at the stadium, plans to develop the facility here and a team that wants to play for you. On top of this we have a band of volunteers that make everything tick over and safe for for us to use. There are probably loads of other inititives going on i have forgot to mention.
What is noticable though is the comments on this forum. Now no one is knocking free speech or consyructive comment but last saturdays match thread sums up what i think. A good performance hardly mentioned as the state of the pitch is the main topic. If we had got beat though i bet the thread would be so long you could print it off and use it as toilet paper all week. There is nothing wrong with being positive, honest, just try it.
We all have excuses why we don’t come or can’t get here at times and the club accepts that. What is unfair is the staying away for staying away with excuses ranging from its rubbish, too low a level, don’t like wednesdays, the guardian gives us no coverage, i am doing something else every week. This club is like a family and at times you will fall out with it and not agree with it but like your family you will always be there for it when you it needs you. Does it take another threat to close the club for good for you all top get off your seats to come back here? If you can’t get here then don’t use this site like an update for facebook we don’t need to know, just support your club anyway how such as buying a shirt, joining the lottery, offering up some time, sponsorship anything.
Witton Albion is your club don’t lose it.
Superb post!
Well said Club Shop.

Bravo.
an absolutely crazy idea. we are WITTON ALBION, so let’s not detract from that fact. i for one do not want to even remotely to bear any resemblance to those financial has beens from across the canal.
