Rod Thornley has signed from Altrincham. Him and Warlow will take some stopping!
Can’t believe he’s signed, I had no idea :o
Who has signed now - can’t keep up!!!
;D
I wouldn’t get too excited about it if I were you.
From the Altrincham FC website:
Although Rod Thornley will be turning out for Witton Albion tomorow, he will only be doing so to maintain his fitness after deciding to leave Moss Lane because of his limited opportunities in the first team. Rod will then be away on England masseur duty for two weeks during which time he will consider his options for the future as regards a new club.
Thornley played for us in the opening game of the season at Kendal and he was dreadful. Didn’t rate Coo much either when he played for us in pre-season. I reckon we’ve got the better end of the deal with Ticks, Ant and Frosty. I understand we had to release Thornley’s UniBond registration to get them.
Cheers Jim & Deeleyshambles - a pleasure doing business with you!
When it comes to good teams and bad teams the league table does not often lie!!!
Danylyk is a good player as you know, but such is the quality of our midfield that he can’t get a place in it! Frosty and Ticks were unlikely to be selected very often and therefore were sensible to move. If we wanted to have kept any of these three players we would have done!
Coo looked very good on Monday at Kendal, but again we have four players in Spearitt, Dillon, Royle and Kearney who will play at right back if necessary, so Coo will have to play well to hold his place.
As for Thornley, how can Altrincham know what his plans are if he has left? How do they know he will turn out tomorrow? Maybe he will, maybe not! I think he will more likely be back-up for Warlow and Crowe at the moment, the one thing for sure is he misses too many games due to England duties. Given Altrincham’s cracking start to the season maybe they should have played Thornley more!!!
I saw cavell coo at our blackpool away game and he was mediocre…surprised crewe did not keep him because he had potential but ah well…will b interesting to see how he does at the albs
I certainly feel hard done by in that we have released 2 players who have not even been making the match squad, and 1 player who has played a bit-part from the bench. We’re doomed i tell you, doomed…!!!
In fairness mediocre in league 1 should do a job for us in Unibond Premier.
coo was not that bad today…his running was good and he seemed to do what he needed to at least he puts the effort in because warlow never seems too…
Again in fairness…watch what Adam does of the ball etc plus his close control, I bet you cant take a 60 - 70 yard goal kick and control it on your chest ;D
I am not saying warlow is a bad player…he actualy happens to be my favourite player but I am just saying there is room for improvement. The last few games I have seen him when he takes a shot he wont stay alert…we would have at least one extra goal if he did yesterday. Basically when he takes action he just stops and hopes it will go right…I know every player has his faults but because he is just who I have noticed…
Once Warlow gets a couple of goals his confidence will grow and he will be unstoppable…he’s got a real natuaral ability to score goals, give him time…
Thornley pledges future to Witton
By Andrew Simpson
ROD Thornley says he will stay at Witton to help with their title bid.
The former Altrincham front runner scored on his Albion debut last week before joining up with the England national team in his role as a masseur.
He called Jim Vince today to say he wanted to stay at Wincham Park on his return.
advertisement"It’s fantastic news for us," said Vince.
"Rod said he would listen to offers during his time away and he has spoken to clubs higher up the pyramid than us.
"So when he says he wants to stay then that’s a great testament to what we’re building here."
Thornley, 30, released by Altrincham after featuring as a sub on one occasion in their opening five matches.
On the Guardian website yesterday
Excellent news to everyone apart from Dean Crowe - based on Thornley’s performance against Eastwood it looks like him and Adam have to be the first choice fron two!
Crowe and Proffitt are however good players to have on the bench as long as they are happy with that role?
Don’t write Crowe off just yet, i think he’ll be a massive asset for us if he can get himself fit.
Not written him off, I just think on the evidence so far that Thornley is fitter and sharper than Crowe, I think he is capable of keeping Crowe out of the side. The only thing that worries me with Thornley is the forced absences throughout the season, but he might be good enough to pick up where he left off.
I think that once Crowe gets a run in the side then he’ll be class.
Spot on Robbo , Crowe makes the ball do the work and his positional sense and lay offs reflect his knowledge of the game, not sure if he was ever a quick runner just a quick thinker.
This is top class news about Rod. I think he showed last Saturday that he can still be a force and his vision and skill will be an assett to us. He’s not the big bustling forward I would like to have seen to support Warlow but the vision, experience and the skill will make up for this. As has been pointed out Crowe and Proffit are great players to back this all up or even to play if they force their way into the team. Its all about competition for places all over our team and this is what its all aboutno room for complacency!! Brillaint news!!
