Surely mark wouldn’t sanction the signings of either shaw or platt ???
Nothing would surprise me ! It does our manager no favours if it comes true, he needs the fans on his side this would not help one bit.
Yes, its much better to play fullbacks and centrehalves in midfield than actually sign some midfielders.
bangwall
We all know we need midfielders just not shaw and platt. They weren’t good enough last time so what’s changed???
100 percent agree but they need to be half decent, we have seen them both and neither were very good to say the least, in fact the 3 in mid today were effective and better options for sure, we need to move forward not backwards. If they are the best we can get we may as well give up and I’m not alone in that opinion !
Whilst i’m sure Witton will be top of Steven Gerrard’s list of prospective clubs if he chooses not to renew his Liverpool contract, in the meantime we have a glaring hole in our squad that needs filling with players that are a) available, b) affordable, and c) willing to come to Witton and play for a team deep in a relegation dogfight.
A week ago we were all moaning at Barnes being played in midfield, now we’re unhappy that we MIGHT sign certain players who naturally play in the position in which we are most lacking.
Obviously i’m keeping my fingers crossed that Yaya Toure will be in the squad on Tuesday, but if that deal falls through i’ll take small improvements in the squad for the time being.
Last season Pritch had to try out a lot of duds upfront before we finally got Titch back in. But you work with what you can bring in until you are able to bring in someone better. And as you know better than most CJ, that’s how football at this level works.
November isn’t a great time to be trying to attract players.
And to be honest, in Joe Shaw’s case at least, he’s always done well against us for Trafford and was unlucky to suffer a seriously injury when he signed for us therefore never doing himself justice as an Albion player. He is also a top bloke and is probably the kind of guy that the current dressing room needs. The first time we signed him it was considered something of a coup too.
Maybe we should wait to see how he or any other player actually does for us before we start laying into them.
Thought our midfield was excellent today, the most organised its been all season for me
Square pegs in square holes. Long may it continue.

Jordan Henderson might get a game but I think we’re ok atm
Like you say Robbo Joe is a top lad and he was just starting to fit into the team when he got injured. If he can stay clear of injury he will be an asset.
The better players cost money that we haven’t got in the budget
We could do it the way other teams do it and not get to the end of the season as we owe the taxman or whoever but sadly the current market conditions dictate that players are commanding stupid wages and are prepared to move for the sake of £10 extra a week.
Of course it’s all sense you talk Robbo but I would not go back there period, I expected a bit more from our mgt team if he or they sign and do well I will apologise.
Like i say CJ, i am happier to see them looking to address a problem area (as Paul says, the midfield were fine today anyway) by signing players in the short term.
If they aren’t good enough they’ll be moved on i’m sure, and hopefully better replacements brought in.
But lets at least give people a chance (the management team included).
These players have had a chance and failed. The budget is tight so why waste it just because its what we can afford and it makes the numbers up???
They failed today did they??? There has been a massive upheaval at the club this season, unfortunately we’re not a premier league club that can hire and fire players and managers like that. There are signs of improvement, give sully a chance to get his head round it all and bring in any players he feels he needs ffs
Joe Shaw failed? I don’t think so. He left of his own accord, i believe Pritch tried to retain him. The fact that Trafford moved to bring him back would suggest that they know more about his ability than we do.
Yes the budget is tight, so why sign a player to make the numbers up? Well if its a choice between playing Joe Shaw or Sam Barnes in midfield i know which one i would take. Same goes for Gards, i would much prefer to see him at RB.
So what you’re suggesting is that rather than signing a player who might not be the long-term answer, we should wait until a better player becomes available and we find oil under the Wincham Park pitch that allows us to pay for him?
We have to make the numbers up to 11 every week with players that we can afford. They might not always be the players we as fans deem as good enough, but as long as they are wearing the Witton shirt i’ll give them my backing until we replace them with someone else.
I may be wrong but think Johno was referring to Shaw and Platt having had a chance not today’s team !
Re potential signing My hope was that the mgt having been in the Evostik and NWCFL for a few years may have brought younger good potential players within the budget to challenge for a spot ! Our chairmans notes suggest we pay the going rate in our league so should be attractive to teams from these leagues, I will support any player in the Witton shirt at the match but I and others will have an opinion on there value, footballs a tough game ! I could add more but wont.

He didn’t specify so I took it he was referring to todays/recent team selections. Personally wouldn’t mind seeing Joe Shaw back in a witton shirt but yes I agree Platt was disappointing for us.
The big problem with joe shaw is his injury record, barely played for the last 3 seasons. If we signed him would he be fit enough to play? Probably not! Platt was possibly the worst CM we’ve ever had certainly the slowest. Wouldn’t want him back even if he payed to play.

We’ve been hiring and firing both players and managers all season. It is my opinion and nobody else’s that bringing in Joe Shaw is not the answer. I hope I am wrong and he plays a big part in our survival. UTA
