They failed today did they??? There has been a massive upheaval at the club this season, unfortunately we’re not a premier league club that can hire and fire players and managers like that. There are signs of improvement, give sully a chance to get his head round it all and bring in any players he feels he needs ffs
We’ve been hiring and firing both players and managers all season. It is my opinion and nobody else’s that bringing in Joe Shaw is not the answer. I hope I am wrong and he plays a big part in our survival. UTA

I may be wrong but think Johno was referring to Shaw and Platt having had a chance not today’s team !
Re potential signing My hope was that the mgt having been in the Evostik and NWCFL for a few years may have brought younger good potential players within the budget to challenge for a spot ! Our chairmans notes suggest we pay the going rate in our league so should be attractive to teams from these leagues, I will support any player in the Witton shirt at the match but I and others will have an opinion on there value, footballs a tough game ! I could add more but wont.
Thanks for clarifying that C.J. We have had little to shout about this season and today was a breath of fresh air to most people. Soooo good to see the team scoring goals again.
I’m not sure a relegation scrap is the best time to be blooding young players from lower leagues.
Zac Corbett is a young player with potential, and i think he could be an asset for us over time. However, we couldn’t field a team of 11 players of that ilk and expect to win many games.
Nige Deeley went down that route, and it cost him and the club dearly.
We need experienced heads who have played at this level, alongside a few young (cheap!) players.
If Shaw isn’t fit then he doesn’t play and doesn’t cost us anything. But Barnes has also had a wretched injury record, but we can’t doubt his contribution now he is fit.
It’s not like Sully is saying “I’ve signed Joe Shaw so i never need to sign anyone else ever again”. He’s just one name being mentioned. There are sure to be (and are) other players he is looking at.
The problem is unless you’re paying decent money out, you’re not going to sign good players who are already getting games at another club. So you either take a chance on a young player from a lower league (could go either way - what ever happened to Zane Gouldbourne??) or you bring in players who are available and affordable and have experience at this level.
The fact is our bench has been very light in recent weeks, so we do need to thicken out the squad at least.
Shaw only played a handful of games at this level. All his success was at a lower level, so hardly proven at this level and would definately be a gamble.
We’d give him time to get fit and then get match fit it wouldn’t be a case of him being here a week. More likely a few months so if after a few months we let him go because he isn’t good enough. It would be a gamble that didn’t pay off.
