WITTON FOR EVER.X
Well done to those that have given money, typical of a couple of Wittoners that the first comments on the thread are pulling the board, the manager and the players to bits. Club of the month last month and something like 2 defeats in a dozen games. bloody awful isn’t it? I think when most clubs sign a new player everyone is upbeat but not at Wincham Park. ‘We’re only happy when we’re moaning, happy when we’re moaning’
Echo the comments in regards to Trevor (and others) contributors, a great gesture to support the funding of a new signing and like all those that contribute financially and through other voluntary efforts the club benefits hugely from these vital contributions. Indeed the fans have long ‘topped up’ the wage bill and undertaken constant fundraising efforts in support of the playing budget - perhaps a reason why they might feel more bothered by mediocre performances.
On the basis this is a forum I think everyone is entitled to debate the team selection and pass their comments on matches and player performances, all of which is based on a shared desire to see the team improving and challenging for the league. There are questions that I can’t answer so maybe others can?
In signing another striker is whether this is genuinely the most essential requirement in the team at the moment? Steve Foster is one of the most prolific strikers in this league, already bagging double figures for the season. Mike Moseley has a near 1 in 2 goal scoring record in over 300 games and is currently playing some of his best football in a long time. Stuart Rudd before joining FCUM had scored 229 goals in 308 games! Given the goalscoring ability of these three players are there other reasons why we are not scoring goals? If the new lad and Foster are the first choice do you drop Moseley (who has probably been the best player in the side over the last 4 weeks)?
Last week we needed to play Tandy at left back (and he is not a left back) and Booth at right-back (and he is not a right back). Given the lack of full back cover did we not need to strengthen this department first?
We have expensive players regularly starting games on the bench and if they are not for whatever reason not starting games should we be looking to move them on, not withstanding the difficulty that they are under contract?
We’ve conceded one more goal (12) in the league than any other club (with 3 clubs having conceded 11 goals), so why so many changes in defenders? Given Rudd’s goal scoring record why is he playing centre half meaning that we need to sign a new striker in replacement?
Is the fact we have changed defenders so much a contributory factor to the amount of defensive players sent off recently (Dylan, Rudd, Neville)?
Has Ruffer made a difference to the quality of our defence?
We started the season with Booth as Captain and half a dozen games in that changes to Stuart Rudd, why? Are either of them vocal enough and organise the team enough to be captain?
Why did we have to appoint a new assistant manager going into the season?
When does anyone last think we played well? (Personally the away game at Colwyn Bay 4 weeks ago is my opinion).
I care about how well this side plays and the decisions been made, otherwise I wouldn’t buy the season tickets, contribute to whatever activity takes place, spend hundreds of hours a season on activity for the club. I believe our current form is and league position is very fragile and whilst I will get behind any player that pulls on the red and white shirt, I believe we should be doing better than we currently are. There is no divine right to success but with the group of players we have we surely have better credentials than Kidsgrove when it comes to topping this league.
I may be the only one concerned by some of the above points and regardless come Saturday I like everyone else will cheer on the side, but it is time to stand up and be counted.

Just a quick reply to The Wincham Rabbit as always football is about opinions ,all your points are valid , also I think there has been another defender signed last week.
My understanding are that funds are stretched ,and have been for some time, the players Witton have got are what the club can afford at the moment. I think the current lads although not setting the world alight are doing a good job in stabilizing a rocky ship.and ofcourse team of the month last month ,
I also believe they can do alot better, and I believe they will. While I always say we should go out to win every match the Unibond league cup was always dead rubber, and extra fixtures not needed, no interest from fans , let alone the team, what was the gate? How much revenue did we get from that.? Id hate to think the players would get injured in that match going all out at 100mph and be out for Saturday. So I forecast a much more competitive Witton on Saturday. What I would like to see is the “stay away” fans to turn up and get behind the team .If anyone has a mate who is one of those, drag him or her along , a larger home crowd can be like going a goal up already.

… and would be a damn site more stretched if not for your generosity, for which I know you have sought no acclaim. McAliskey and Ruffer are unlikely to be cheap and both have the pedigree to be good signings (too early to judge), but potentially the likes of Booth (who is unlikely to start ahead of Rudd as Captain), Brodie and Heler are three contracted players we should possibly look to transfer list given their likely cost, using this money to increase the squad accordingly. We have successfully benefited from loan signings over past seasons and perhaps this is also a route to take?
Gary looks to prefer Rudd and Ruffer to using Pritch or Booth as first choice and it would be disappointing to see either of these move on. I’ve not seen enough of Ruffer yet to know if he is any better than what we already had, our league goals conceded suggested there was not massive problems to fix at the back.
I agree completely with regards the league cup, it will not be a defining competition in our season, unfortunately the competition does not carry any significant value (I think I am right in saying you earn more from winning one round in the FAT or certainly that used to be the case).
We need some stability in the side and if contracted players are either ‘not doing it’ or filling the bench then we perhaps need to think about how these can be moved on. We have the nucleus of a good side on paper, if we convert that to grass we’ll be OK!

Unlike you to be funny
Just wondered if we are turning into Salford cast offs??? with rudd, foster, ruffer, mcalaskie, tandy etc???
I reckon Pritch is out of favour, and will be joining the faithfull in the Pritch stand shortly! That saddens me greatly as him and Boothy seemed to be doing fine (as The Rabbit says look at the goals conceded, and the team of the month award)! What was so wrong at the back that Ruddinho had to fill in there, maybe Booth was injured?? Ruddinho was signed for his prolific scoring surely? (I must admit though he has been playing well in defence!). If what the Yorkshire one says is true Super John McAliskie could be an asset at this level, lets hope so!! And COME ON THE ALBS tomorrow sing your hearts out for the lads!!! this is masive!!
