NPLFA Progression - Owen Wynne (Witton Albion).

The NPL Football Academy (NPLFA) is delighted to announce that Witton Albion student Owen Wynne is progressing onto the NPLFA’s ‘Undergraduate Sports Degree’ in partnership with Loughborough College.

Since creating the programme in 2017, the NPLFA are offering two types of blended learning courses that will last three years – a BSc in Sports Coaching to gain valuable work experience at a semi-professional club while obtaining coaching qualifications and a BSc in Sports Management covering the football industry and a host of cross-transferable skills.

Witton’s leading scorer the last two years is now extending his stay with the NPLFA and is looking forward to starting in September. “I am absolutely buzzing to get started and have been for some time. I was attracted to the degree programme as I believed it offered me the complete package in terms of getting a degree in sports coaching whilst still playing semi-professional football”

The football mad youngster is looking to develop a career in the game once he completes his degree and will use his experience and enjoyment of the previous two years to achieve that. “After the degree course I hope to be either playing football or coaching in football or maybe both? I found the BTEC in Sport Level 3 challenging, but a good challenge as it tests many different aspects of sport. My highlight with the NPLFA so far definitely was getting selected and playing in the inter-league squad during my first year on the programme against Port Vale, it was a very proud moment!.”

When asked would he recommend the programme to school leavers, his answer was short and emphatic “Most definitely!”

Everyone at the NPLFA would like to wish Owen the very best of luck on our degree course and we look forward to catching up with him during his first year.
