On The Ball is an initiative from 3 female Celtic fans who are campaigning for free sanitary products to be provided in toilets in football stadiums. They decided to start the campaign after noticing that some stadiums did not provide adequate sanitary provision and also to assist with the growing period poverty issues throughout the UK. They feel, along with a vast amount of females, that sanitary products should be free and they describe how providing free products can reduce those awkward moments when a young female fan is at the football and may have to ask for money to purchase products and sometimes there have been no facilities to purchase at all.
Period poverty affects 1 in 10 young females throughout the UK and even though the girls have faced fierce and sometimes abusive criticism, a lot of football clubs are backing the initiative and getting on board.
There are now close to 50 clubs participating in the On The Ball campaign including top flight premier league clubs and we at Witton Albion are proud to be joining this venture.
