Ossett Town vs Witton Albion

A disappointing result but thats what a good season we are having i guess! 4 points from Buxton & Ossett away is a good return and the defence looking better this season.

Thought Ossett could have won it 2nd half as mentioned above, they were clearly inspired by their rowdy home support!

Lets keep the home form rolling on Tuesday…

Having had time to reflect, I think 0-0 was probably a fair score. We didn’t make many chances, despite our total dominance of a large portion of the game.

Adam Warlow needs someone else up top with him who is going to do the leg work - like Griff and Moseley were prepared to do last year. There were quite a few occasions on Saturday when Adam wasn’t in the box when we had the ball in wide areas, as a result of him having to come short and give them the ball in the first place.

This is not where Adam is at his best. That’s not his fault, he’s a goalscorer and therefore his strike partner should be the one doing the dirty work. However, out of his 3 different strike partners this year, Thornley seems to be the only one equipped to do this.
Crowe, despite how good his touch is, is not mobile enough (not capable or not willing?) Proffitt often picks up the ball and runs at people blindly in wide areas and hardly ever gets an early ball into the box or even gets past the man (happened numerous times at Buxton).
Thornley and Brodie seem, in my opinion, to be the two options that will help Warlow and Witton score more goals.

Have to agree with you here Greenie. I’ve said in previous posts that if we have a weakness its up front. You’ve summed this up quite well in that neither Proffitt or Crowe are going to partner Warlow effectively up front and thats not getting at these lads its just a matter of blending. Thornley certainly has the vision, guile and experience that could forge an effective partnership but the only problem is the enforced breaks away and his injury record is not great. The look on Jim’s face as he walked of the pitch Saturday showed that he was dissapointed with the result. Its not a disaster and or a setback but it does show that we might struggle to break down teams who defend tightly. I get the feeling that when other teams go to Ossett they’ll get all 3 points, Buxton managed it in the game before. It probably seems like nitpicking because there are loads of positives this season already but the difference between us finishing top and finishing in the play offs may lie in us needing to score goals against the more defensive teams. I therefore think we need another forward perhaps someone who can put himself about physically and take the weight off Adam. Thornley offers a different option with his vision and guile and will obviously be an asset but I feel we need more backup in this area when we are struggling to break teams down.
Can we also cut out the frequent use of short corners when we play these teams too. Against Buxton we got the ball straight over and the result was a Pritch headed goal.On Saturday we wasted 2 or 3 corners with short corners between Peers and Brodie. Get it into the box especially if Kearney, Pritch, Warlow (all 6 foot plus)are standing in the area waiting!! Apologies if I’m ruffling feathers we are a great team but I feel a forward with the right attributes would ensure that we win the league and not just get in the play offs.

Getting a bit worried here. After the Lincoln game the call was for a big midfielder who would break down every move that came in our direction, and that Danylyk would be the key. Then after some very good performances this seems to have died down. Now that we did not score against Ossett the new call is for the perfect striking partnership with Thornley being the main partner to Warlow. I’ve only seen him play once and could’nt possibly comment. Are we going to panic after every performance that does not go our way?. We are going to get games where nothing goes right, because players have off days. From what I can gather the pitch was absolutely rock hard and difficult to play on. There will be days at Ossett where the pitch will be saturated and difficut to play on! Its not an easy pitch to go to and get a result

I think a pont will do and yet another clean sheet is definately a bonus! Looking forward to seeing ow the guys get on against matlock on tuesday! Come on Witton!

Every team no matter how good has its weaknesses and the good thing about forums such as ours is that it is a good opportunity to hear different opinions on our team.

I’m not expecting people to agree with me, football is a game of opinions and everyone can have their own, that’s what makes the game so great.

I agree with you Toon. Although we probably do have the best team in the league, we don’t have the divine right to win every game! The forwards are struggling for goals but we all know Warlow will start scoring eventually. I would much rather have the problem of struggling to score goals than conceding at the other end. Jim might need to release one of the current strikers to bring somebody else in but it’s probably not as straight forward as that. Maybe it’s time to mix it around a bit, Brodie to partner Warlow and try Dillon on the wing??
