The best way is as hard as possible.
Placing it is always more vulnerable as it is rarely as well placed as the taker intended.
If it is smacked then the “save” is usually the chance of the ball hitting the keeper, there is then the chance of a decent rebound.
The taker still needs some bottle.
I would try Peter Heler,Paul Henry or Ryan Broadhead.
The danger of a keeper is obvious if a rebound results in a counterattack!
Interesting topic Eli. The best penalties are those taken like a goal kick, hard and rising into the corner of the goal. The best and most reliable penalty taker I have ever seen was Shaun Smith of Crewe Alex, a left back who took them in exactly that way and rarely seemed to miss. I recall Dennis Irwin at Man U, also a full back, was entrusted with the responsibility.
For this team its whoever has the bottle to step up and meet the challenge.
 Penalties hit hard into the top corner (angle of goalpost and crossbar) are generally unsaveable, but the kicker need to be reasonably proficient as there’s not much margin for error.
I make it that Witton have only converted four penalties so far this season (Steve Foster 2 pens v Quorn on 10th October and 1 pen v Sutton Coldfield Town on 17th October, also Carl Ruffer 1 pen at Loughborough on 14th November).
Yep, you’re right! So that’s five converted. But how many have been missed? All things being equal, the conversion rate should be something like 80%, but I doubt if the Albion are anywhere near that percentage this season!
Tell you what winds me up…actually alot of stuff winds me up but it’s penalties being called “missed” when they’ve been saved! Kin annoys me does that!
