Pete Riley

I know few people either post or visit this site but surely the death of a stallwart over the years does need a mention. Pete loved the club but many as he was have been ostracized by a few. Non league football at WAFC level will surely die, unless people realise this. Peter was a proper non league fan, maybe a yesterday man like many of us. I unfortunately cannot attend his funeral but one hopes that ex chairman Harris would not do his eulogy, because that would be an insult.
God bless Pete

This is really sad news. I knew Pete was suffering with ill health but its really sad to hear of his passing. A top bloke, a great Wittoner and someone I personally had a lot of time for. RIP mate.

There is more on Facebook than on this forum where supporters pay tribute to Pete. Some of us don’t know the background to Pete not coming to the club in recent times and now perhaps its best it stays that way. In any event, he was well thought of and respected by those who knew him

Pete was a gentleman through and through and I respected him for it .
RIP Pete mate ,you were a true Wittoner . UTA

RIP Pete, didn’t know him as well as other Wittoners, but he always had time for a laugh and chat at every game ,one of the first guys to welcome to the club on match days and was sorely missed over the last couple of seasons . god bless you mate.

I think it’s fair to say that if it wasn’t for Pete, my dad and I would never have become Wittoners.

My dad decided to call in at Witton on his way back from work a year after we moved to Cheshire, having previously seen them play at Harrogate. Pete was in the club that day, welcomed my dad and gave him a list of the remaining fixtures that season, and we attended the next home game, and have been fans ever since.

If Pete hadn’t been so wecoming and enthusiastic on that day, I don’t think we would ever have ventured up to Wincham Park.

R.I.P. Pete

Very sad news. A top bloke, Witton through and through, always ready for a friendly chat. RIP Pete.

Only just got back of my Hols to this very sad news, Peter was a great Wittoner and a top bloke it was sad to see him so ill over the last couple of years RIP Peter.

Sad news. Pete was a very friendly face when I went to the games. A real Wittoner.

Terrible News.

Pete was a great bloke and Fantastic Wittoner, he did so many jobs in and around the club over the years, on the pitch, around the social club and not least in the office as Match Secretary.(He hated doing the tannoy tho!)

I last saw him on the 18th May, I know that because we had a long chat and I took his address down and said when I came to a match next season I’d pick him up as he was worried that he wouldn’t know anyone and no one would remember him, sadly I never got the chance to fulfill that promise, but the comments on here prove otherwise.

A sad loss and condolences to his family - RIP Pete and another unfortunate addition to the Central Ground in the sky.

Also just back from holiday and very sad to hear that Pete has passed away. He & I worked as a team when we were Football Secretaries of WAFC and I was always assured that he would do the job well & with passion for our Football Club.

There appears to be no mention of when his funeral is (was) so if anyone has any info on this???

GE

According to social media we will know the date of funeral soon

I have only come back on to express my sorrow at the death of Peter. I went to school with him and played football with him. He moved away for a while but when he came back he did some wonderful work at the club. The last time I saw him was some time ago in the Penny Black when we’re both in there for lunch. We had a bit of a chat about Witton and then parted. Top bloke, I shall miss him.
