PLAYERS?

New management? does this mean another new squad? what players do you expect gary to keep? and which ones do you think will be shipped out?
intresting times ahead… good ones we hope!!!

Ive had a few in depth chats this week and everyone seems to disagree on players, obviously the contract players plus Pritch will stay but who else???
i’d keep Young R.Thaker, Drew, Both Thornleys and Thompson and maybe young Dan S.
Agree? or Not?

Totally agree:)

id keep warwick and linford too, think we may see sum good things from them should they be given the chance. Settle too, may not be the most skillful, but his work rate sets an example 2 the others.

Thats 11 players you want to keep so why have we sacked the manager?

Because he was not a “lucky” manager. Nothing really went right for Mr. Deeley after the first few games. It is a fact you need some luck in football, he got none.

hmm…because we have lost 9 games in a row and sit bottom of the league? And i suppose the board and fans arent overjoyed about that? Harry redknapp and joe kinnear havent brought anyone in, but they have started to turn things round with the same players. Believe me them players will be working their socks off on saturday now they have a new manager to impress! And we WILL end this losing streak on rat, mark my words

Not so sure Danny, let’s wait and see if our new manager is a “lucky manager” first before we get too excited.

Restore the FAITH you had in Nige, in Gary. Or roughly translated, and il say it for the first and last time, and as Eli is looking on the BEBO website he wont catch me saying it, KEEP THE FAITH! Hehe

Why not rephrase it as
‘fide et fiducia’ meaning ‘by faith and confidence’ ?

You cant compare Nige to Foulmouth Finley, I sat there behind the dugout on my lads 6th birthday whilst he and Brabin used every expletive plus some made up ones at the officials, that was my first Witton experience aswell as my lads. Unfortunately/fortunately, I loved the feel of the place and was made most welcome, hence my continuity of support.

The difference between he and Nige is that Nige is a coach and as such, like myself, would like his sides to play around the opposition, ball on the floor, overlapping fullbacks etc. Gary however will get his teams to play through the opposition, similiar to a battering ram or a tank, i.e. Steve Connors, Anton Lally, Mickey Mel… well the 1st 2 anyway. Gary’s teams are similiar to those that Blackburn and Leeds had with David Batty, ball winner with decent wide men and a ball player along side him. you get the point…

I reckon in 6 weeks it will again be a different squad, Nigel tried to assemble a squad of footballers, Gary will have a squad of " GET OUT THERE AND FU@@ING DO IT"ers.

Cant see many staying!

" Dogs of war " comes to mind - but if he gets us away from the bottom and safety then he will have done the job he was brought in to do. Don’t think that Nige thought that Ross was ready yet and at least one player did not rate him so would be surprised to see him feature. Everyone knows that midfield was our problem so would expect at least 2 to arrive in that department.

Keep the Finley:dry:

WE have played “pretty” football for three seasons or more and got precisely nowhere. Believe me everyone will be happy if we just keep winning and the manner won’t matter a jot to the majority of Witton fans. The opposition won’t like it, but I don’t particularly care what they like.Teams get out of this league by battering their way out, why should we be any different? When we get out and into a decent standard of league, then we can start looking to play “pretty” football again. As long as we play it hard but fair, I will be quite happy to watch us climb up the league.

Football is a results game, if given the choice of watching sexy football and being nearly men or playing ugly and winning then i know which id prefer, if we travel to the end of the country and slog out a 1-0 win playing ugly nobodys gonna complain! if my memory serves me right watching witton get promoted to the confrence and the trophy final was not thru sexy football but by guts and determination, we didnt play like arsenal but we won a lot of games…bloody hell colchester away in f a trophy qf when super karl thomas scored 2 goals in the dying minutes is an example…we were battered most of the game but every man gave it 100% and we won, nobody gave us a prayer in that game and i remember the look on peoples faces with 5 mins to go and it was still 0-0…no pretty football in them days but nobody was complainin at the end…thats wot we need know…players who will give every last breath to grind out a result…some of the football was breathtakin last season yet we had nothing to show for it…if we go to ossett on sat and win with a scrappy performance i will be happy and im sure every single person who loves witton will be too…its time to get ugly folks:P

hi yorkshire red, that game at colchester, 2 conner goals if i remember, also i dont think we got battered , just showed northern grit, another game where we were fiddled on the gate.

its time to get ugly folks , if you look at some of witton fans i think they already have.

If our style of football is to roll our sleves up and get stuck in then so be it. sometimes thats what it takes ie, Bolton fc, Portsmouth fc and Stoke fc all use that tactic and their in the top flight.Gary is obviously going to release a massive chunk of the squad and bring new faces in because i cant see any of our current team who tick the big, hard, fast and strong boxes???
Can you???

if i wanted 2 watch sexy football every week id be goin 2 oldtrafford. I just wanna see the albs climb up the leagues and if thats thru ugly football then great. I would love the day 2 come whenever somebody asks who i support i dont get the response ‘who?’

You sure it was conner who got the 2 goals at colchester tonee? i know its a few years ago now but i always remember karl thomas as the scorer:unsure: i still have the vhs of that game somewhere so il try and find it!! can still vividly remember their fan getting bit by the policedog at full time tho:laugh:

Joe Connor scored two at Colchester, there used to be video clips of a few of our cup/trophy goals on the site from back then.

I can remember Karl scoring a sensational goal at Colchester, but I think it was a league game?

There was a horrendous wind, and Karl chased a ‘lost cause’ long ball. He managed to stop it going out of play right next to the corner flag. He picked himself up, and before the defenders got back, he crossed the ball into the empty (except for the keeper) penalty area, and managed to curl it into the top corner of the goal.

OK it was wind assisted, but still a great goal.

im sure it was joe two goals in the last 8or 9 mins?, over the 90mins i think it was even steven, but with about 15mins to go we brought mark edwards on (wot a player) and that swung it for us. about 400 of us behind the goals mass celebrations. and then the colchester fan, yes the doggy won:laugh: . and then kiddy next, but thats another story.
