I notice that several fans are showing concerns about the number of trialists that appear in first team pre-season friendlies.
This pre-season may be different, as Paul Jones (Witton Albion Reserves Manager), has organised a full programme of pre-season fixtures for the reserves. Maybe more trialists could be vetted in these games?

Not a problem. I have a good network of contacts within football and it makes sense that we have our own programme of games and training leading up to our new season in the Cheshire 2nd Division.
We are however playing our 1st game of the season at Wincham Park so any supporters who are not traveling to Conwys to watch the 1st team are encouraged to come and watch the reserves where we potentially have 3 players who can push for the 1st team this season already on our books

Unfortunately we lost 5-0, although the performance was not as bad as the scoreline suggests. Witton had the best of the play for the first 20-30mins, but were undone by 2 own goals. Edgerton scored a classy 3rd just before half time.
The 2nd half Egerton dominated, and deservedly finished the game off with 2 more well taken goals.
Yes the score-line was somewhat flattering to Egerton. The big difference in this game was Egerton’s physicality and obvious experience of playing together with only a few new faces in their squad.
I was pleased with the football we played in the 1st half and experimented with a 4-3-3 system which quite quite quickly became apparent did not suit our players. We also had a squad that has never played together before. When the pressure started to mount we did not have any players able to step up on the pitch and organize players to maintain our shape and play thru.
Our fitness levels need to improve. We are working with a very young squad this year and we actually played three 16 year old boys who I think did not look out of place in this game and am very excited by these players and who they will become over the next few years.
After the game I kept the players behind and let them know in no uncertain terms that the performance levels for a player representing Witton Albion Reserves has to be 200% better than what was on display as our playing personnel will be a revolving door. Players will come and go as the standards we attract to the club increases as our reputation for being a development team grows. I told them make sure your not the 1st through the door
We got the reaction we wanted with a solid away win away at Curzon Ashton 2-1
Reserves lost 2-0 Away to a very physical DUCKINFIELD TOWN tonight. 0-0 at half time playing some great football and moving the ball well but lacking a cutting edge in the last 3rd of the pitch.
8 changes at half time and our discipline and shape begins to unravel. We are punished for 2 individual errors from some young player.
Despite the loss this has again been an interesting evening showing that we are vulnerable to teams showing a physical side to their game. Pleased with the football on the whole knowing our young team will grow into their roles.
Bojan Karanlang (ST) continues to impress in the lone striker role and more than handled the physical side of this game.
