positives from today 3 points, liam back playing and scoring which is great and will help titch back to his best, gaghan played well and will challenge for a wing spot so pressure on them to perform, my 0only concern was another injury to olly and clampett missing again, I think to maintain ouit challenge we need to acquire a reliable partner for Sheehan and we will be there or thereabouts, I hope Brian has his feelers out and the board back him.
James wasnt injured, he just wasmt fit enough apparently. The idea was always to start him and see how he got on. Clamps trained last week, so hopefully we’ll see him back soon. Schofield has proven himself to be a capable replacement, so we are looking much stronger in midfield now.
I think the cupboard is bare now in regards to any more signings. The board have backed Pritch up to this point, but i don’t think there is any more give in the budget.
thanks robbo a bit more good news, schofield has potential but hes not ready yet to lead a promotion push imo, will be happy if clamps or james are properly fit but they have both missed lots of games this season which is a real worry ! that was my point if it was me I would be looking for an older head is nigel deely fit ? but if its not possible we will have to manage.
we can’t just sign players without money in the budget, so we will just have to soldier on with the present squad, which is more than capable of realising our dream of promotion. we can play our part in a promotion push by getting down to the h4h stadium in numbers and cheering the boys on. come on witton.
I believe Robbo is fit and played yesterday. Sadly he can only play one game a week nowadays.
And it was a scoring comeback, so if Titch needs some finishing training i’m available.
We dont need a striker robbo, we need a cultured box to box midfielder, can you manage this role and chip in with 10-12 goals as well- simple.
Paul Scholes was available until last week. Pritch missed a trick there!
on this point again, I was not advocating spending more money/budget on a new player its more really balancing the books, we have in my mind 5 midfielders :
SHEEHAN,CLAMPETT,JAMES,ENNION AND SCHOFIELD
For me we could afford to lose one of these and replace him and given the amount of time james, clampett and ennion have played it could be one or two of those 3 ? to release money for a new reliable and fit partner for Sheehan - of course if Pritch is sure that james and clampett are close to fitness/availability and there problems are not long term then we can probably pull through but to not fix the issue if they are long term issues will for me be a mistake, even a loan signing would help its worked before if you get the right person.
Personally i think that we would be hard pushed to find anything like the quality we currently have for similar amounts of money.
A lot of people have wanted us to bring in young players with potential, and we have done that with Schofield - doesn’t make sense to talk about replacing him with someone else now…?
Yes Ennion has struggled to impress this season, so you could replace him. But you are only going to get a similar level of ability, so is it really worth it?
If you’re talking about letting James or Clamps go then that is madness!! Both proven quality players at this level.
To improve on what we have you’re probably talking about releasing 2 or 3 out of James, Clamps, Ennion, or Schofield just to bring one player in.
I think it makes much more sense to keep a settled squad and let our existing players work to finish what they have started.
We can look at helping Pritch out by supporting the ongoing fundraising schemes.
Do we have an update on what the Commercial Committee are doing - is there anything anybody can help out with?
agree with what’s been said, stick with the squad that have got us so far. don’t knock their confidence by saying certain players should be released, they have run their socks off for witton, and indeed for us fans. i am more than happy to stick with this squad, after all they have given us something to shout about this season. so come on get behind the players and they will deliver what we want PROMOTION. don’t forget the players want success as much as we do. come on witton.
God!!! Here I go again agreeing wholeheartedly with Robbo. These lads have given us a great season so far, better than any of us expected if we are honest. They are all decent players but more importantly they actually WANT to play for Witton and that for me says it all.
WHS.
This was far from a great performance, but three points away to Cables is a great result. We need to keep level headed and realise how far this squad has come.
Prescot played good football, the captain, right back and number ten were very good players. For the last three or four years Cables have played some good football,so the result is all the more pleasing.
I understand where C J is coming from, but i don’t think the midfield needs the apple-cart upsetting.I think to release one of our less experienced players to make way for an outsider is not the way forward.
We need to stick with our principles and see where the squad will take us.Which ever way, already this season has been a great success.
