Ex-Vauxhall Motors and Marine boss Carl Macauley has been unveiled as Witton Albion’s new manager. The former Albion full back beat a shortlist of three other candidates to the post, where he succeeds Scott Dundas.
The 45 year old former Burscough and Southport player works as a Liverpool FC Foundation coach. He began his managerial career at Vauxhall Motors, guiding them to Step 2 of the non-league pyramid during a five year spell before moving on to Chester as assistant manager and then to Marine in 2014. His spell at the Crosby club was curtailed but the Witton Albion board has now handed Macauley the opportunity to re-establish himself at Wincham Park where he is joined by long-time assistant Gary Martindale, the ex-Tranmere Rovers player.
Macauley and Martindale have yet to announce the full make-up of their backroom team and in the meantime will work the caretaker management of Dave McDonough, Terry Murphy and Carl Frost as they review the Albion playing staff. McDonough and Frost will take the first team at Mossley tomorrow evening, watched by the new manager and assistant from the stands. They take over formally at training on Thursday.
A board statement said “Witton Albion is pleased to announce the appointment of Carl Macauley and Gary Martindale. The short term strategy is to stabilise and improve the dressing room, and over time to build a robust player pathway using the foundation being laid with the Development Squad. Carl’s credentials as a coach, for strong discipline and passing football is well established. We wish he and Gary every success.”
I’m not happy with the appointment. Did you not see how bad marine were last year with a decent budget under his management? I didn’t think our board could surprise me anymore… I was very wrong
Well He must have interviewed well ? on balance I would have liked Pritch back personally but maybe its too soon for Him, having said that Carl is a vwery goods ex player has EUFA B badge and coaches at Liverpool He is the now Witton Albion manager and I think we should get behind him back him fully so Welcome Carl - get us up that table ! magic up a couple of signings ! and everything will be great -no pressure UTA
Strange, lack-lustre appointment for me. Have we not learned from the 2 previous managers that were appointed?! i just simply cannot believe that Carl is a better appointment than Pritch - Pritch knows the club, knows our key players, understands what the fans want, and cares deeply about WAFC.
Who actually makes the decision? Is it a board vote? Is it Mark? Is there a selection panel? I really worry for us now, hope Carl proves me wrong…
