Just been looking at this and there are some absolutely cracking games and away days to look forward to next season. Alty, Staly Vegas and Whitby the obvious picks but also looking forward to aways at Stourbridge, Hednesford and Sutton Coldfield too all of whom have been getting big crowds this season. Buxton and Matlock always a nice trip over the hills too.
Going to be tough for us I reckon but with Admiral Carl in charge who knows what will happen!! Roll on August, I can not wait for the fixtures to be released. UTA
The added bonus to being in this league is that we won’t be doing as much travelling.
In the old days in the Northern Premier I always enjoyed the trip to Buxton.
With games at Buxton ,Matlock,Marine ,Workington and Stalybridge it’s like being back in the 80s.
All that’s missing is Worksop , South Liverpool and Gainsborough and it would feel like being back at the Central Ground
I thought before last Saturday’s game that it was WAFC’s most important game for decades. Had we not won we would have had another season of long travelling in the South & probably would have lost several of our players who wouldn’t have wanted all the travelling again. Added to that that most teams didn’t bring anyone with them etc, etc.
As we did win, and deservedly so, we now have a great fixture list to look forward to with several Cheshire derbies & nice away days (as mentioned) + many teams who have a decent fanbase & will bring an away day following as Witton is an attraction for away-day visitors.
Carl can now negotiate with the current squad terms for playing in the Premier Division & will be able to attract the players that are on his bucket list who probably didn’t sign this season 'cause of the travelling.
One added bonus for the teams in next season’s South is that they won’t have to trek over to Cheshire twice.
Been watching the winning goal on the Evostick video page & impressive how we surged forward, particularly Brad & Gards & what a superb cross from Steve Tames to Brad. When you compare that with Spalding’s No.4 who took the throw-in deep in Witton’s half & made a token effort to get back, it showed which team wanted it more.
