Re:Gary Finley - do the decent thing and RESIGN

Be interested to know what level you fellas think we ought to be playing at these days. We have arguably been playing below what many would see as our ‘natural’ level for around 15 years now - Finley’s only been around for a few of them. Lots of other failed managers and bad players in that period…

The slow and steady decline has been appalling, and I doubt there’s a way back.

I understand how most of you feel on this thread, but I will say it again, the £7000 it would cost to get rid of Gary would be better spent elsewhere.

If you look at it another way, it would not have been impossible that you could have been talking about a Premiership manager.

Half way through this season, Blackburn were considering promoting Gary to reserve team coach, and there was a strong possibility we were going to lose his services. It’s history that this did not happen, but just consider if it had. Shortly after this, Big Sam had a major problem with his heart. If all had not gone well for Big Sam, then it is usual for the reserve team manager to be appointed caretaker manager. If Blackburn Rovers had then gone on a good run, it could have been possible for Gary to have been appointed as the permanent manager of a Premiership side!!!

I know, an aweful lot of ifs…but it could have happened, and our failure to get promoted out of this league would have been blamed on the loss of Gary!!!

Thanks for the information TT.

But have u seen the way Blackburn play - no wonder their crowds are low, they can’t attract fans even when they give tickets away.

I know I keep repeating myself but I would not have had him back in the first place and to give him a 2 year contract was madness at this level of football.

If he stays I hope for the sake of this club that he proves me wrong and I will be the first to hold my hand up and acknowledge it. ( Which is more than his players did at Stamford on saturday when fans spent their hard earned money supporting the team that he put together and one of them did’nt even bother to turn up ). Then again I was not surprised - the way he speaks to players both on and off the field - and he is obviously not interested in supporters either. Fact - He is not liked in the dressing room and he is not liked on the terraces.

This thread is about doing the decent thing and resigning - so that should not cost us £7000 surely ?

My concern now is how much it will cost us if he stays…

Gates are continuing to fall, volunteers are withdrawing their services, people who have previously made sizeable donations are saying they will no longer do so.

That all adds up.

It will be interesting to see how many people renew their season tickets this summer.

Admission prices stay the same @ £8.50 £5.50 £4.00 I am informed ! So ST will not be priced that much different from this season. We had 55 buying ST this season !

Tell you what, even though I don’t come to every game I will buy a season ticket for next season, how much are they and who do I pay? Let’s stop moaning on here, a new season will soon be upon us and it can be a successful one if we just KEEP THE FAITH!! We were in the old Cheshire League and went up to the Conference. It was a step too far, but the Northern Conference is not beyond us, look at some of the gates teams in that league get! I believe we can be champions next season, you all have to believe that or it is a waste of time. You lot on here are passionate Wittoner, disappointed passionate Wittoners, but I believe you will get over it and come back stronger than ever.
WHS.

We ought to be playing at the highest level that we possibly can provided within means.

Currently that is Unibond South as 180 fans per week will only support that league

However when in the Unibond we can attract 300-400, if we made our way up the Conf National we would probably pick up fans along the journey up there and get 700-800+

It is about steady growth and living within means. At the moment we have experienced steady decline and are heading in the wrong direction.

We need to be heading in the right direction and therefore things need to be done on order to turn it round. Basically it comes down to money, attitude and profile in local community.

Money

  • attract more poeple to WP on a cold saturday afternoon, if football std low do other
things as well, give people a reason to come and they may enjoy and come back
  • make the most of existing facilities to maximise income for non football things
  • make the most of existing facilities for football income (renting ground)
  • Push the sale of WP forward, we are desperate
  • maximise sponsorship etc

Attitude

  • get rid of manager
  • get rid of players who will not agree to bonus related pay structure (points equals
money, no points equals expenses only)
  • sign players with something to prove, not has beens
  • keep Pritch forever in whatever capacity
  • give local youth a chance

Local Community

  • build relationship with schools, buiness and the local press

Witton staff can not do all these things on their own so if you want to help get back in the right diredtion volunteer your help in some way, all us fans have different skills from ideas, managing things, organisation, communication to specific technical skills and manual skills - we should offer our skills to support and help get things off the ground and turn this club around before it is too late

Like your thinking Clover - but in the last close season JP organised a workforce to spruce up the ground and dressing rooms - the response was pathetic and it was left to just a handful including some ladies who worked harder than anybody !

As regards schools -young kids are not interested in watching non-league football, they are spoilt with SKY ESPN to watch their heroes and copy them on a saturday and sunday morning aided by their parents who organise matches for them in a very professional way.

Well then… I guess we’re really up Sh** Creek

I wonder if there is scope to have junior games played on WP on Saturday mornings, and then attempt to encourage the parents to stick around to watch the first team play?

Middlewich’s junior teams play on their pitch, and it does help forge a bond with the senior side.

Getting off topic slightly now of course…

Splendid idea Robbo - when we arrived at Stamford on saturday the kids were playing 2 matches. Don’t know if it was a one off or not but the parents were around all day.

Can u imagine Sprucie though - Get off the F***** pitch !

Great idea - there are lots of ways to get people to the ground for events before the match where they could be encouraged to stick around for the match - Inter School Cup etc

That would also sort out the catering for next season - take that shed down that Runcorn use and have a Hot Food Van in the corner by the turnstiles.

And someone accused me of straying off the point!!
WHS.

Yes - let’s get back to the thread - I blame Big Sam he recovered too quickly !

Big Sam, GF, Blackburn, Premiership (NOT the Unibond one)!
