MID-CHESHIRE LEAGUE DIV 1 ? 18/2/2006

WITTON ALBION RESERVES 3 RYLANDS 1

An experimental Albion back four struggled for long periods during this very entertaining match. Looking very disjointed at times, twice they almost conceded when getting in each others way. However it was a terrible miss by the visitors Jake Lovatt just after the hour mark that they had to be really thankful for. With the goal totally at his mercy he somehow contrived to fluff his shot with the ball ending well wide of the intended gaping target.

Albion though at the other end of the park did quite well and took the lead in the 10th minute when LEON WILLIAMS christened his spanking new boots when after outstripping his marker he sent a lovely curling shot past the keeper and inside the far post. Rylands produced an equalising goal eight minutes later when Mike Astbury fully exposed Witton?s stretched defenders to advance and although Brett Walker took some of the pace of the striker?s shot it wasn?t enough to the ball crossing the goal-line.

This certainly shook the home side into action and three times Rylands?s keeper Karl Wills was to deny Albion?s forwards before the break when he superbly dived and palmed the goal bound shots out for corner kicks before the interval. Wills kept up his good form in the 2nd half by particularly keeping out efforts from Ryan Barhill and Williams. However from the corner he conceded in the 80th minute when denying Williams, Danny McNamara?s lovely high curling flag kick was met solidly at the back post by the head of debutant and ex Blackpool player DARRELL AVERY.

In the very next minute all three points were secured and what a goal it was as RICK BAILEY firstly cut across from the right before sending a screamer of a 20 yard shot flying past Wills?s outstretched right hand. This vital win has enabled Albion to leap frog Knutsford to regain 2nd position in the league.

Team: Brett Walker, Neil Murray (Danny Jarrett 71), Matt Murray, Chris Jump, Chris Pheiffer; Rick Bailey, Darrell Avery, Ryan Barhill, Mike Cartner (Danny McNamara 51), Leon Williams, Gavin Smith (Kevin Towey 61).
