RESERVES MAKE IT TO THE FINAL

Saturday May 6th - Mid-Cheshire League President?s Cup S/Final

CROSFIELDS 0 WITTON ALBION RESERVES 2

TEAM: Walker; Bailey I., Pritchard, Ward, Murray; Bailey R, Tulloch, Jarrett (Jump 85), Hurley: Williams, Hurst (Smith 80). Subs n/u McNamara, Hughes & Clarke

On a pitch that resembled a country field and required work performing on it before a ball could be kicked, Albion were able to control the match virtually from start to finish, although the crucial goals didn?t come until the final 15 minutes.

In the opening minutes a Crosfield player?s arm appeared to make contact with the ball, the referee hesitated before pointing to the spot. However encouraged by the home players to go to his assistant he changed his mind and restarted the game with a drop ball!

Both sets of forwards were struggling to get the ball on target whilst the respective defenders were more troubled by the unpredictable bounce of the ball. In fact it wasn?t until mid-way through the 2nd half that the first clear cut opportunity arose, that fell to Danny Jarrett but he sent his shot wide of the target.

The opening goal came in the 75th minute following Andy Hurst anticipating well to pounce on a delightful low ball thredded through from Iain Bailey. Pulling the goalkeeper wide Hurst then turned and sent the ball past the keeper and there waiting was STUART TULLOCH to lift it into the roof of the net.

Just three minutes later the tie was settled and it was a piece of individuality from RICK BAILEY. He broke down the right, past one defender, cut in, then appearing about to lose possession, the next defender slipped so on Bailey went, past the final defender before sending in a shot, across the keeper and into the far side of the goal.

So their marvellous season continues and Thursday May 11th now sees them in the Final at Congleton Town, ko 7:45pm against Poynton.
It would be a great for the lads after a great season to finish off with another trophy (as they already get a trophy as runners up in the MCFL 1st division)
They would really appreciate as much support as possible as this is their final match of the season.
Please try and get to Congleton’s ground this coming THURSDAY 7-45PM KICK OFF when the game is played to a finish, with extra time and penalties if needed.
I would personally like to thank STEVE HARDY, DAMO and SIMON HUGHES for all there hard work to produce one of the best ever reserve side we have ever had at Witton.
