Reserves v Winsford United

As expected this was a difficult fixture for our young Reserve outfit against the NWCL team. Nonetheless it provided a vital workout to the whole squad.

Barton Stadium’s playing surface left a lot to be desired, long grass and several uneven patches didn’t, when they tried to get their passing game going, help.

Under the cosh for most of the 1st half keeper Gary Belwood pulled off a number of good saves. Winsford took the lead just after half-time when Albion lost possession on their left the subsequent shot on goal looked at first to have been stopped by Belwood’s dive but on the wet surface the ball ran beneath him and trickled over the line.

The introduction of Danny Jarrett saw Albion start to press forward and former Albion pivot Lee Morgan was bellowing at his fellow United players to step their game up. Winsford’s keeper did well to save a Leon Grandison effort but in the dying minutes a move down their right saw a good low shot produce a second goal.

A worry for manager Tony Ennion was a re-occurence of a leg injury to keeper Belwood that may well affect him playing in the opening fixtures this coming Saturday at Billinge and at Wincham Park on Monday against Padgate & Sankey Eagle. Kick-off 6:30pm
