It has been announced that Rhyl FC have folded after 141 years as a football club after failing to attract any future investment. The Welsh side have been in existence since 1878 and Witton enjoyed many a battle with the Lilywhites, particularly in the Cheshire League between the 1950s, 60s & 70s.
A sad day for football, but this is only the first club to go due to the virus. Surely the FA should step in to help clubs, or are they only interested in the Premier League and getting tv rites to their games.
All that history such a shame, had some great days out at Rhyl in the old Cheshire league, all the more reason to help our club at this critical time if you can UTA
I can remember going to Rhyl for a friendly a few years back when they were in the Welsh Premier League. At that time they were receiving (comparative to us) large amounts of money from Welsh television rights with a wage bill that was a multiple of ours. Its really sad that despite all that investment the club has folded. Perhaps this shows that clubs can only exist at certain levels and when they go beyond that, driven by new owners or TV cash, the result is disaster when it ends. Whilst we all crave success and promotion, it shows you have to be careful what you wish for.
