Run In

Had a quick look at the run in and most of the other contenders have to play each other at some point, Chasetown for instance have to play Kidsgrove, Sheffield, Leek and Mickleover. Leek have to play Kidsgrove too. I believe it is in our hands now, despite the fact we have played more games (which may turn out to be a blessing given our squad size) Games in hand are not points and with teams taking points off each other we have a great chance if we keep our nerve and give it all we have got. COME ON THE ALBS"!!!

Good point WHS.

I note a number of games were cancelled tonight elsewhere so they may yet be the usual end of season fixture congestion. For example, Chasetown have to play 7 games in 22 days. I’d rather have the points in the bag.

Agreed completely WHS, my post from a week ago along similar lines is here: http://tinyurl.com/ya79muo

Leek and Kidsgrove play each other on Bank Holiday Monday and they can’t both get three points.

Our first priority is to win Friday and Monday, if we do that then we are still in with a shout. On the basis Mickleover are unbeaten at home there will not be too many points picked up by clubs going there.

Yes you’re absolutely right there!!

The three points from tonight being in the bag is just great, and the other clubs up there playing each other has got to work in our favour, if we just keep winning we might be in the playoffs-----and by god we deserve some luck in them!!!

Of the 7 teams (assuming Mickleover win it) that are contesting the play-off positions there are some interesting fixtures between now and 24 April.
Glapwell (on paper) have the easiest run-in with only Sheffield (away) to be played of the rivals.

Chasetown have 9 left inc 5 @ home inc 4 of the play-off teams and inc 2 away against the rivals and Kidsgrove at home on the last day. They have not played Leek at home or away yet!

Sheffield have 7 to play inc Glapwell at home and Chasetown & Mickleover away.

Glapwell have 5 comfortable games at home and 3 away including Sheffield.

Belper have 2 at home inc Chasetown and 3 away and are in 2 Cup Finals in April.

Kidsgrove have 4 comfortable home games and 3 difficult away days @ Leek, Lairds & Chasetown on the last day.

Leek have 3 tricky home games inc Kidsgrove & Chasetown and 4 equally tricky away days inc Chasetown.

And Witton have 3 home games and 2 away. They’ll all be nerve-racking!

My predictions are that Glapwell & Belper will get 78 points, Sheffield 77, Chasetown 76, Kidsgrove & Witton 75 and Leek 70.

But then I thought we’d win 3-0 at home to Frickley…

GE

I included Carlton in 9th as part of my analysis.
There are 49 fixtures remaining which involve one or more of the top nine.
Of those there are 11 fixtures between two top 9 sides.
We play clubs who are currently 11th,12th,13th,18th and 19th.
We have to hope that Crapwell’s and Cheatstown’s backlogs hinder them.
But, we have to win all five of ours.

Dodger, and everyone else, when in this league has any team, with the possible exception of Mickleover, shown any likelyhood of putting a run of results together? I reckon we can be in the top five with just another 10 points or so, that’s three wins and a draw, mark my words 72 points will be enough.
WHS.

PS Remember I am NEVER wrong (unless the wife says I am!!).
WHS.

I’ve re-read my posting and I don’t think I refer to anyone putting a run together, apart from the need for us to put a run together by winning the five remaining fixtures.

Dodger, I realise you did not say “putting a run together”, my point is simply that none of the top teams have put a run together apart from Mickleover and are unlikely to start now. I honestly believe 10 points will do it, 15 and we will finish second!!
WHS.

Win all five and we’ll be alright, anything less and I think we will be on the edge!

GE’s prediction is for four wins and draw (13 points) and still has us in 7th. I think a couple above may drop a few points, however we have to look at five wins. We’ll know a bit more after the weekend games but for starters let’s win those and keep the chance alive.

Asking the lads to win them all is a big “ask” but if they can, all well and good. I am really suffering with “man flu” at the moment, my wife dismisses it as a cold but you lads really know how bad “man flu” is, women have no idea how bad it is. Hopefully after spending the last two days in the house dosed up with loads of chemicals I should be fit enough to take my place on the terraces tomorrow. To try to ensure I make it I will, at the last resort, drink a lot of Brandy which as we lads know is the ideal medicine for “man flu”.
WHS.

That’s the spirit!

I hope you make it WHS, if we’re on that is, heavy rain forecast for tomorrow! :frowning:

Oh great, I get to have pneumonia with my “man flu”!!!
WHS.

you’ll be reight, it’s just a “bit of a cold”

Dear All,
Thank you for your concern, however, though the pitch maybe fit I am afraid I am far from it. Unless there is a big improvement in the next few hours I am not going to make it. If I don’t, give Pritch and the team an extra loud cheer for me. At the next home game I will of course “Pay my penance” though in my defence, it is not my fault this time, I will even have to watch my beloved Sale on the box!!!
WHS.

Only four wins to go now
Monday is massive because of 3 all top 9 clashes.

The run-in certainly looks exciting, 7 teams separated by 4 points.

Whilst we are in third those behind have games in hand although some of these are against each other! As the whole thing is getting a bit complicated and tense, I thought we would add a one page sheet to the official website that you can download and stick on the fridge/wall or anywhere else you fancy!

Monday is indeed a big day Dodge, six teams in the top 8 with games against each other!!!

Download the printable table from here (hope it helps) www.wittonalbion.com/witton-run-in.pdf

Just printed my excellent chart off Rabbit !

Will keep it by the bed !
