Runcorn Linnets v. Witton Albion

Witton make the short trip to Runcorn Linnets on Bank Holiday Monday in a Northern Premier League West Division fixture.

Jon Macken’s team are still unbeaten after four league games having only won one of them so far but, they looked likely to beat Avro FC on Saturday only to concede a late equaliser and shared the points.

Runcorn Linnets haven’t made the best of starts to the season having lost twice in their four games, the latest being at early leaders Kidsgrove Athletic at the weekend.

Last season saw Linnets beaten in the Play Off Final at Workington but there have been a lot of changes in personnel during the close season.

Last season’s meetings saw Witton lose by the only goal at the APEC Taxis Stadium but, gained all three points in a five-goal thriller at the U Lock It Stadium.

The game is the first of three scheduled meetings between the two clubs this season with the return fixture scheduled for New Year’s Day at the U Lock It Stadium but, they have also been drawn together in the Isuzu FA Challenge Trophy First Qualifying Round to be played in September with Linnets having home advantage.

They will certainly get to know each other well over the three games and will both be looking to come out on the right side of things.

Games against Linnets have always been keenly contested and this latest encounter is expected to be no different.

Kick off at APEC Taxis Stadium is 3pm.
