Runcorn Linnets v. Witton Albion

Witton begin the new year with a short trip to neighbours Runcorn Linnets on Wednesday afternoon in a Northern Premier League West Division fixture.

Ben Harrison’s team ended last year with three successive wins and will be hoping the new year begins in the same manner.

Victories over Wythenshawe Town, City of Liverpool FC and Nantwich Town on Boxing Day have given Witton new and fresh impetus as they climb away from the lower reaches of the table.

Runcorn Linnets currently sit in seventh place in the table, two points outside the play offs having played a game more than Nantwich Town in fifth.

Witton can lift themselves up to mid table with a win and depending on results elsewhere but the important thing will be securing three more vital points.

The game at the U Lock It Stadium earlier in the season saw Witton run out comfortable winners with a 4-0 victory so will be looking to complete the double over their opponents.

Changes in personnel during the past few weeks also adds to the interest with former Albion captain Callum Grogan now playing for Linnets, boosting their contingent of players to have worn the colours of both clubs.

Witton have also added to their squad with the signing of experienced midfielder Max Harrop, whilst striker Nick Hepple has already made an impact scoring on his debut.

A tough game is in prospect and Witton will need to continue their recent good form if they are to extend their winning run.

Kick off at the APEC Taxis Stadium is 3pm.
