Just for those not on twitter or Facebook, We have lost another Witton legend with the Passing of Sammy Stanley, probably the nicest fella you will ever meet, I will certainly miss him down at the ground always happy, always a smile or a little waft of his brolly. RIP Sammy.
Sad news. Lovely bloke, always had a smile on his face.
RIP Mr Stanley
Deeply saddened to hear this news Sam was a true gent and absolute legend at Witton Albion. I will never forget the sponsored walk from the woodpecker to chester, he put all us youngsters to shame with his endless energy and infectious smile. A wonderful character that will be sadly missed. My sincere condolences go out to all the family.
What a truely wonderful man he was. Always had a smile for everyone. There will be a massive void with his passing. Small in stature but a massive heart of gold. RIP Sammy, a true Legend.
Really sad news, a great man who always had a smile on his face.
Condolences to all his family
Very sad news. Sam was the first face you saw as you drove or walked past the ground giving directions to anyone who needed them and I’m sure no ground in the country got a brighter more cheerful welcome than the one given by that Witton legend. . Will never be forgotten by Wittoners. R.I.P.
RIP Sammy. Whether its a minutes silence oir applause on Saturday im sure it will be beautifully observed, and deserved!!
In the shop there is a copy of the Guardian from Wembley 1992 and there is a big picture of Sam in it, and he looks like he’s getting on there, which just shows what a superb innings he had!
I hope I get to live as long and as happy as he did.
He told me some wonderful stories about Witton in days gone by when I was writing for the magazine, I shall really miss him, he was a TRUE Wittoners in every sense of the word.
WHS.
Although I didn’t know Sammy particularly well I have had the pleasure of acknowledging and saying hello to him for the vast majority of my life simply because of our mutual love of a football club. The kind of person that would do anything for Witton and expect nothing in return. What a lovely man and a top, top Wittoner, WP won’t seem the same without him. Thank you and RIP Sammy
very sad to hear of the death of sam. a true witton legend who will be sorely missed. a nicer person you would never meet. my sincere condolences to his family.
A great guy who has left a legacy of a wonderful family. My heart goes out to them.
I never heard him utter a bad word about anyone and his presence will be sadly missed.

We’ll all miss his smiling greeting at the ground. A lovely feller and a lesson to all us grumps - Don’t Worry, be happy!
I echo the sentiments above. I didn’t know Sammy personally but his smile was infectious and even saying hello to him could put a spring in your step.
I’ll miss seeing him about, a true Albion great.
Rest in peace, Sammy.
The word Legend gets banded about everywhere nowadays, but in this case Legend doesn’t even come close to this man, Sam is one of life’s treasures there aren’t many about, I work as a postman and have asked about Sam in the office, not one of the old timers had a bad word to say about him which in Royal Mail is high praise, enjoy the car park up there Sam gone but never forgotten. (Maybe a case for a picture on the legends wall in the Social Club?)
Along with that other legend Queenie Price, true Wittoners.

Let’s hope that performance was for Sammy and for sure He will have a smile on his face. UTA
