Shaw Lane AFC vs Witton Albion.

Well we huffed and puffed but really could not get going, the pitch was poor, the wind was gusting and really it suited SL with their direct hoof it style, they also defended pretty well as a compact 8 in front of the keeper making it hard for us, just about the right scoreline ! disappointing but that is how it goes sometimes. Important now to get everyone fit and rested for the playoffs, really we need Prince fit and at his best and Tames up front we have a much better balance and threat that way again. Disappointed to see Roberts on the bench but for whatever reason Carl keeps picking Hare so I guess thats that one settled till next season. Great following and support from the Witton fans for a trip like that to take 250-300 on a night match is superb, tripling SLs best gate ? UTA

I just got home from what’s probably my last ever Witton game. I got back on the ‘supporters bus’ to find that my seat and my sons were taken so when I started to question why… I was started on by a so called Witton fan or two. If my lad wasn’t with me I’d have snapped them in half (feel free to pm me and I’ll meet you one and one ) otherwise good luck Witton. I don’t need that in my life.

I witnessed this and was appalled at the behaviour of this bloke, never seen him before and hope i don’t see him again!
Keep supporting the club Witton massive it’s the other bloke who should stop going and should definitely be banned from the supporters coach!!

On a more positive note we head towards the playoffs but with home advantage. If we get the same level of support that we received last night we will be fine. At the start of the season we would all of settled for the playoffs I’m sure. UTA

This should be investigated by the club and resolved - from the sounds of it Witton-Massive 77 is owed an apOlogy at least, dont give up on Witton for one fan who possibly had had too much excitement on the day UTA

Sad this, I really enjoyed the trip though I probably “Bent the ear” too much as I usually do! It is why I never stay in one place when I watch a match, I move before I bore! The man I was trying to think of who I think played in goal for Vics when we beat them 6-1 at the Drill Field many moons ago was Barry O’Neill. Why someone would take someone else’s seat on a coach which had a couple spare I have no idea unless they were drunk and wanting a fight.

Firstly, the incident on the bus should be dealt with swiftly by the club. Name and shame the idiot and also issue a lifetime ban from watching us ever again. WM77 please don’t give up on the club just because on 1 idiot.

Secondly, last night’s game was football Jim, but not as we know it. No wonder they only get 100 people turning up to watch that. Cannot fault the fact they deserved to win. The windy conditions and rock-hard beach-like pitch suited their style of play. Did they ever put 2-3 passes together during the whole game before the ball was hoofed over the top of our defence?

Can’t fault our effort over the run in, although understandably our heads did go down after their goal. The chances they created after that were purely down to us perhaps overplaying in midfield given the conditions and also our inevitable push for the equaliser left us exposed at the back.

Not over yet of course, but the fat lady is clearing her throat - UTA!

As for the game, dreadful pitch, dreadful conditions dreadful game. The ball was in the air most of the match because the pitch was so bumpy, not fit for Sunday League. As the say "It ain’t over 'til it’s over, you never know with football.

Mixed feelings this morning. I’m gutted at the result, we were beaten very narrowly by a team that’s on a par with us but probably on far more money budget wise which says it all. I’m proud of our players and the way they stuck at it last night. We deserved a draw and with a bit more luck would have got it. The Williams shot hitting the post was only an inch away with their Goalie (who was Mr time water personified )stranded.
Ok it looks like Shaw Lane will be champs but all our players including the lads who sit on the bench most of the time are all champs in my eyes. I do hope we now go on to win the remaining games as you never know in football what might happen. We need to dredge out two more weeks effort and energy from our weary lads to make sure we go up. I’m sure they’ll rise to the occasion like they’ve done all season but I urge all Wittoners past and present to get down and support the lads over the remaining games. The support and noise last night was fantastic and we need to generate this for the remaining games to ensure we get promoted by whatever means. Its really annoying that both Shaw Lane and ourselves are so far ahead of all the other teams yet one of us might miss out due the play off lottery scenario
Like everyone else I’m disgusted about the coach incident with witton massive and hope something can be resolved. I do hope that Witton Massive will still support us as I’m sure the club will isolate the culprit we don’t need that kind of person supporting us anyway. Onward and upward UTA!!

i did’nt go last night but from what i’ve been told is that the ground is awful so how has it been passed for evo prem standard?

I also have mixed feelings about last night. Came away disappointed with the result but also extremely grateful to be a Wittoner. Places like that make you realise what a fantastic set up we have.

There is no wonder they are unbeaten on that pitch, and I would imagine the conditions are usually the same or similar up there - who would want to watch that every week?? The ground itself was just a sports complex like Moss Farm, with adjoining cricket and rugby pitches. I have no idea why their money men are pumping money into that club, it will cost them millions to develop the ground into a half decent one and I am also amazed that it will be accepted into the league above. Their staff, although they did their best, were clearly unprepared for our big following. Parking was a nightmare and the beer and food ran out every ten minutes or so. Having said that good luck to them but I’d be surprised if this boom for Shaw Lane continues long term.

As for us its looking like the play offs but you never know. We just need to keep backing the team till the end of the season, whatever happens they have given everything for us this season. It was perhaps a game to far for their weary legs last night and playing with a beach ball didn’t help either. Keep the faith. UTA

I agree with both the above comments.

Just logged on to the forum to see the post about the supporters coach incident which has surprised and disappointed me as the organiser , firstly as stated its a supporters coach and the club are not in theory accountable or responsible for any supporters travelling on that coach, bans etc etc will be issued as required, any problems are for me to resolve and not for the club to be dragged into.
I’m surprised that there was no seats available as the coach was a 49 seater, 44 seats were taken going and 43 on return , and on leaving shaw lane everyone to my knowledge was seated, I’m extremely sorry that ste suffered any form of harassment or abuse on the way home from a fellow supporter and I appologise sincerely and had I been aware of the situation would have done my utmost to resolve the matter.
Witton Albion supporters are amongst the best travelling fans of any league, always respectful of those around and never involved in violent or abusive behaviour, they’re more often than not drunk and out of tune, but never cause any problems, if they were I wouldn’t have run the supporters buses for more years than I can remember,
I’m not keen on airing these topics on open forums and won’t be entering into long winded discussions, I’m sorry again ste, you have my number and i,d hoped you would have spoken to me first, we all need to support our club, especially over the next couple of weeks, see you all Saturday, at the bar!

Hi WM77, I dont know who you are, but please do not stop supporting Witton just because of one other supporter being very inconsiderate. I normally travel to away games in my car, as I am not a very good traveler on coaches. Please continue to travel to away games next season. I normally have a few spaces in my car, so if need be, I will give you a lift. If you want to have a chat, I will be sat in front of the tannoy room at the last couple of matches.

I’ve missed the last few games due to holiday, but whatever happens now, it has been a great season and the management and players have done us proud. They have put in a great amount of effort and guts and determination to get us where we are and deserve a huge sl;ap on the back for giving us such an exciting season. We, in my opinion will definately be promoted, which is no more than this great team deserve. So no more moaning, just get behind the team and the management, they have done a superb job this season. Looking forward to Saturday and another 3 points in the bag. UTA

Well said.
