Signs in town

I know this has been mentioned in the past but putting up some large red and white signs around Northwich advertising the next game(s) and directing people towards Wincham is a MUST before Christmas. I believe the rent is cheap and it is so important to raise the profile of Witton now.

Never before has our club had an opportunity to build for the future whilst striving for success than now. Until V*cs reform in the Mid Cheshire League as a Fans Community Club, Witton will remain the only club in Northwich to watch (no disrespect to Lostock or Barnton). NOW is the time to get kids through the turnstiles and make the people of Northwich appreciate that the great club, whose name is used throughout the town centre, is still living and breathing and succeeding on their doorstep in Wincham.

Directing fans to the ground and advertising the club and the fixtures in and around Northwich is hugely important. I hope this can be considered by those within the club.

Great idea. Are we taking billboards? If so, there’ll be plenty of empty ones knocking about Northwich.

Yeah, I think a billboard at the roundabout near the Chesterway Pub; one at the top of Lostock coming from the A556; Maybe one around the area of the Penny Black and Witton Chimes. Obviously it would require someone updating them regularly but it is a step forward worth taking.

Agreed great idea and brilliant way to continually advertise our club.

I was driving from Lostock to town the other day and there is a massive advertisement board on the side of a house just past Nectars Bar, this is a great idea but is anyone going to have the time to keep the boards up to date?

I think this was looked at over the summer and the cost is pretty high. Not only do you have the rent, but also the design and printing (which is specialist paper, loads of pieces). It was considered but just way to expensive.

Now if anybody’s got a spray can and a ladder…

What about something similar to what Chester rugby club have just before the roundabout on the way to Chester?

Could we tap up Roberts Bakery and have a sign there on the by pass? We put a board on the ground, they let us have a sign on the bypass…

Exchanging advertising boards around the pitch for advertising space in town might be a winner…

In the style of Man City’s Tevez “Welcome to Manchester” poster on Deansgate a massive “Mid Cheshire is ours” one somewhere prominent??

Great that people are having ideas, BUT, everybody already working for the Club is spread too thin as it is.

What we need is for you guys to go out there and investigate this. Get some prices, work on some available locations, get a few different alternatives together.

Then we can get a sit down with the Chairman and see if it’s something we can press ahead with.

The more of us that club together to make things happen, then the less chance there is of us ever becoming another Vics.

It’s YOUR Club…go out there and make things happen :clap

As Ste has already noted the billboard idea was looked into and was upwards for £500 which if memory serves was only for a 2 week period too!

A home made sign IMO wouldnt cut it and no one can do this on a printer etc.

Having a advertising board made is doable and cost is circa £100 but where do you put them ie flyposting isnt allowed and the council will certainly pull you up on that. They would also have to be pretty big to be visible from road and would have to be non specific and couldnt be produced for one game etc. The other issue is security and how many do you do?

The Roberts idea isnt a bad one - the cost is still there and I expect it would have to be big to be seen from the road. The do incidently pay for their advertising with us.

The posters and leafletting round town of the last week or so whilst it took some peoples time cost us a total of £25 (plus Jims spend on the sweets!) to put it into perspective. The jnior passes which we had professionally printed cost £140 and have lasted us for 2 years and were available to 2,000 kids.

If anyone has a specific proposal please come and speak to me as we would love nothing more than to see a “Mid Cheshire is ours” banner in town but we have to weigh up the likely return from a several hunderd pound spend and the practicialities of doing it.

I notice that the brown signs are still in place pointing people to the now defunct vics ground. As the infrastructure is there (poles etc) I wouldn’t have thought that the actual signs themselves would cost that much. SBL

I may be wrong but my understanding was that these were council signs not independant ones.
Some more prominent signs for W Park are also in th epipeline for us but we have had to speak to the council.

This does seem a good idea (swapping advertising boards around the pitch for advertising space) as there are quite a few spaces available at the ground for boards if my memory serves me correctly…

The brown signs are paid for whoever they belong to.They can cost upwards of £500 to install and there is an annual charge as well.
More news later.

Hmmm. makes me think who’s paying the annual charge for the brown signs pointing to the Victoria stadium!!! I’ll bet there won’t be a “Rushe” to form a queue? SBL

can anyone please tell me who is paying the rent and rates for their shop in town

Mmmmmm, don’t they owe CWAC council over £13.000 rates allready??

Had a walk through town today. How soul destroying is it with all those empty shops! Sad. Not saying they are not there but couldn’t see one poster in any of the shop fronts advertising our games. Would love to see a simple sign on the crossroads sign post that simply said witton Albion fc and pointed up the hill

The Watermead in lostock puts posters up advertising our games, would be great if a few of the shops in northwich could do the same.
