The Hednesford fans are apparently looking for somewhere to drink on Saturday!! What time is the Club oopen from as i will post this on their website??
For those of you making the trip to Witton on Saturday, the ground (Wincham Park) is situated on an Industrial Estate and not near to anywhere apart from Northwich Victoria’s ground.
So your pre-match pint may well be in the Witton Social Club unless you fancy a little stroll to the near-by village of Marston, about 20 minutes away. Here, in Ollershaw Lane, you will find the Salt Barge, a nice pub with a very good pint of Adnams, well worth the walk!
Access to Wittons Social Club is now only possible after gaining entry into the ground and it does not open until 1.30pm so a trip to the town centre/village may be the better option. Is there not a pub on the industrial estate at the end of the road in which the ground is in?
For those supporters arriving early at Witton they have a Witton FC museum inside the ground which supporters can visit. Not sure if there is an entrance fee.
You do turn opposite the "Black Greyhound" to get to the ground, haven’t been in but I’d be surprised if it doesn’t sell some real ale, fortunately most pubs seem to now…
There’s allegedly a "Local Pub Guide" on the WA website (link via our fixtures list) but it looks like you have to be registered to access that and I can’t be ar$ed…
Thanks for the links.
No mention of The Black Greyhound on any of them but the Salt Barge is listed. Also noticed The Antrobus Arms !
Glyn, you may be right, The Black Greyhound may serve real ale but not having been in, I don’t know and even if it does I couldn’t comment on the quality.
Having been in the Salt Barge, I can say the Adnams then was very good!
Building on the commercial side of things, it may be an idea to have someone from the club post on the websites of teams we are due to face advising them of what we can offer to them on a matchday? It’s all extra revenue. Just a thought though…
We seem to be missing out here again on potential revenue!! Need to open up the club a little bit earlier for certain teams visiting. Often wondered why we can’t get some Real ale on at the club given that we paid off the brewery loan so that we are not tied to any particulr brewery. Is there any reason for this? I’m sure there is a market for it as there are a lot of football fans who are Real ale buffs too. I’m sure from memory there is a little brewery in Congleton brewing Real ale we could maybe get a barrel or two from them and try it out. Might be talking out of turn here as I know nothing about running a pub i.e. you might need specialist pumps etc but isn’t Wayne Peach a bit of a guru in this area. If not Jeff Metcalfe might be a good source with his pub running background. Just a thought and not big critisism honestly!
Shouldn’t need a meeting for people to display a bit of business sense! The information has already been spoon-fed, it just needs acting on - or at least considering. However, it possibly already has been considered - infact i’m sure it has been.
Not really! Every company has an employee ‘Suggestion Box’ (or something similar). Making suggestions to improve the company doesn’t just have to be the responsibility of ‘d management’, and not wanting to be part of said management does not mean an individual should be muted.
Does having an opinion on the Witton team mean you should put your name forward to be manager?! Nope. Doesn’t mean you don’t post an opinion on here though does it.
If you can think of something that can bring in extra revenue for the club, then get it put forward. If you can do your bit to assist - as so many of us are doing - then do this also.
Seriously Young Robbo you should be putting yourself forward - the club needs young blood like u and your mates - for the sake of the future of Witton Albion. :-* :-* :-*
Good idea about opening the club a bit earlier when we know away fans are going to be having a drink before the game. I don’t think the real ale idea would work though. Real ale needs looking after, and if it’s not being sold in enough quantities, will go off very quickly. Once opened for serving you have a maximum of three days before it turns, and i don’t think the club is open often enough for this to be the case. I was a licensee in Manchester for 15 years, most of the time for Joseph Holt brewery who only sell real ale.
Agree with Daniel James but you can get real ale in bottles as well.Northern Brewery at Blakemere craft centre has real ale in bottles and so does Woodlands Brewing Company from Wrenbury [www.woodlandsbrewery.co.uk].They are both nearer than Congleton.
Worth a thought.
