South Liverpool v. Witton Albion(Emirates FA Challenge Cup Preliminary Round)

Witton begin their Emirates FA Challenge Cup campaign on Saturday afternoon when they travel to South Liverpool in the Preliminary Round.

The Merseysiders have reached this stage following a replay against Sheffield-based Hands worth FC.

The two clubs have never met in their present guise as the current South Liverpool club were refounded in 1991 but the two clubs were regular opponents in their original forms.

South Liverpool are currently members of the North West Counties League Premier Division, following their promotion as Northern Division play off winners at the end of last season.

The current season has started reasonably well for the Merseyside club, but they suffered their first defeat of the season in midweek when they were beaten 3-0 at home by Prestwich Heys.

Witton will be hoping to put a disappointing result at Kidsgrove Athletic behind them but this will be a difficult test for Ben Harrison’s team.

A cup run is something Witton haven’t experienced for quite some time now, and the financial benefits for all non league clubs can go a long way towards securing their futures.

One player Witton will have to be aware of is Elliot Owen who has already found the net four times this season for the Merseysiders including both of their goals in the previous round.

Witton also have players of their own who could make the difference and hopefully see them into the next round.

Kick off at the Jericho Lane Sports Hub is 3pm.
