EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Witton Albion are expecting their next Sportsman’s Dinner to be a sell-out after booking broadcasting legend John Motson and FA Cup hero Ricky George.

The football commentator, pictured, and Hereford’s goal-scoring winger in their famous third round win over Newcastle United back in 1972, are set to entertain fans at the EVO-STIK NPL First Division South club’s Wincham Park on Thursday 1 September.

Organisers say tickets for the event are priced at £35 per head with tables of ten available for £350. For more information email Ian Dobson at: ian20949@gmail.com or text to 07713 544796.

Motson, awarded an OBE, went into semi-retirement in 2008 after commentating on over 1,500 games on television and radio, including all the major football championships led by the World Cup and European Championships.

When not entertaining fans with George on the after-dinner speaking circuit, he continues to cover games for Match of the Day’s highlights and is a regular voice on BBC Radio 5 Live.

A Barnet fan, since 2015 the 71-year-old has also provided the commentary and narration to the BBC children’s football programme Footy Pups.

George, now 70, writes a weekly Non-League column for the Daily Telegraph and co-presented ‘Matchday with Motty’ for BBC Radio Five Live. He has known Motson since the 1960s and even travelled down to Hereford’s Edgar Street with him for the club’s famous 2-1 win over Newcastle match that saw him enter football folklore.

£35 per head with tables of 10 available at £350 Cant fault the maths but theres not much of a group discount there is there?

I just wanted to say a big thank you to Ian Dobson and everyone else involved in last nights dinner, it was a fantastic evening. I took several Gents who had never been to the football club before and they left suitably impressed, well done all.

Great evening, great entertainment, great value for money.
The food was so good I didn’t have room for the cheese and biscuits 1!
also have to commend Noel and the excellent Tatton Ales.

definitely will be back for the next one, for those that didn’t go I would recommend it.

well done everyone

I’m really disappointed to have missed it. I’ve actually bought John Motson’s book and was hoping to have got it signed on Thursday night even though I couldn’t be there. Unfortunately, the book didn’t arrive until Friday because of someone giving misleading information.
